Message from the PRESIDENT

Jimmy Carter, the former President of USA, once rightly stated, “We simply must balance our demand for energy

with our rapidly shrinking resources. By acting now we can control our future instead of letting the future control us.”

The ever growing energy demand worldwide has triggered enormous growth in the E&P sector. Similarly, the downstream sector has become more competitive with the entry of private sector in both refining of crude and marketing of petroleum products.

Globalization has changed the Indian E&P sector’s scenario as many Indian oil and gas majors have intensified their overseas activities. This in turn has fuelled the demand of professionals armored with knowledge of latest technologies. The changing dynamics of the Industry and the need to have a balanced energy mix necessitated the development of a specialized institution which can serve as a training ground for skilled professionals who will play a pivotal role in supplying the energy demand of the country.

This is where Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology stepped in with the aim of becoming a world class educational entity to serve as a fountainhead for nurturing

‘Petrocrats’. We at RGIPT are not only educating our students about the sector in order to bridge the skill gap in the industry. We are also aiming at sensitizing the young minds to prepare for the future as much as they care for it. This is how, in the words of Jimmy Carter, we can control our future.

RGIPT, with its long list of reputed patrons, is poised to provide to industries professionals with the right set of skills. For this purpose, the Institute had been striving to bridge the academia-industry gap and also to achieve active participation of industry in its governance and development. RGIPT is ready with its 6th batch of MBA, which is well trained by experts to understand the dynamics of industry. I am confident that the students will utilize this opportunity for developing themselves and lay the foundation of a top-notch lineage.

I take this opportunity to invite National and International companies for MBA placement of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology. I am sure your organization will serve as a dynamic learning ground for our students.

D. M. ReddyPresident, RGIPT

must balance our demand for energy with our rapidly shrinking resources. By acting now we can control our future instead of letting the future control us

Message from the DIRECTOR

DR. J. P. GUPTADirector

I am pleased to introduce you to the post graduate batch from RGIPT.

Our institute, conferred with the status of “Institute of National Importance” through an Act of Parliament, has set very high standards for itself. The institute has the unique distinction of being nurtured by the Oil & Gas fraternity of India. This brings to our disposal a wide industry network to tap into. The primary objective of the faculty at RGIPT is to spawn a cadre of professionals with necessary skills to stand-up to the challenges in the various segments of the energy and chemical industry. To this end, members of the faculty are drawn from a pool of industry veterans and distinguished academicians.

At RGIPT, we believe in providing an environment where students can experiment with their ideas and learn from their own experience, thereby fostering creativity as well as rationality. The MBA course has been designed with vital inputs from industry and is being continuously updated to meet the changing and challenging needs of the industry.

It’s been six years since RGIPT’s inception and this year saw the sixth batch of MBA stepping out of its hallowed portals. Reports by Employers confirm that our alumni are excelling in their respective assignments and have carved out a niche for themselves. The class of 2015 is now ready to embark on their journey into the professional world. The current batch is a reservoir of energetic and motivated students who I believe would make substantial contributions to Industry and hence to country’s growth.

I am delighted to invite you to our NOIDA campus for the final placements of 2015 Batch of MBA.

J. P. GuptaDirector, RGIPT

We believe in providing

an environment where students can experiment with their ideas and learn from their own experience, thereby fostering creativity as well as rationality.

About RGIPT Vision & Mission

Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) has been set up to cater to the needs of ever demanding energy sector. With an intense

focus on oil and gas domain, it aims at developing human resource to serve this vital sector of the economy by nurturing professionals who are trained to deal with the challenges of this dynamic industry. To fulfill the demand-supply gap of skilled professionals, the institute came into existence through an Act of Parliament and has been accorded the eminence of being an ‘Institute of National Importance’. Also known as the ‘Petrocrats’, RGIPTians, who have the unique advantage of being part of an institute promoted by six power houses of the Indian petroleum sector (ONGC Ltd., IOCL, BPCL, OIL, GAIL (India) Ltd. and HPCL) and the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB), are tailor made for the industry and motivated to make a positive impact.

RGIPT ENVISIONS…

• Toserveasthefountainhead, fornurturingof world class ‘Petrocrats’ capable of being the future leaders of technology and innovation in the Petroleum and Energy Sector, in India and abroad.

• Toprovideeducation, researchandconsultancy for the entire hydrocarbon value chain.

THROUGH…Creating a dynamic state-of-the-art learning and working environment, where intellectual ideas are nurtured and new ideas creatively flourish, from which research scholars and graduates will emerge with the ability to be the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

India is the fourth largest oil consumer in the world and imports over 70% of its oil needs from the international market. For

a long time, a need was felt for an energy specific national institute which can provide world class education, training and research and roll out efficient human resource to meet the growing requirement of the Petroleum and Energy Sector and ensure energy security and sustainability for India.

In this regard, massive discussion and study was carried out in India to visualize such an institution. After long deliberation and consultation with industry and academia, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India set up the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology’ (RGIPT) in 2007 through an Act of Parliament along the lines of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and it has been accorded the eminence of being an “Institute of National Importance”. The Parliament Act has also empowered the institute to award degrees in its own right like IITs. The uniqueness of this institute is that it is the first institute in India being promoted by leading Oil & Gas Companies of India, like Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil India Limited (OIL), GAIL (India) Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in association with Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB).

Since 2008 RGIPT has been offering Programmes like- MBA in Petroleum & Energy Management, B.Tech. in Petroleum Engineering, B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering, M. Tech. in Petroleum Engineering, and M. Tech. (Chemical Engineering). Ph.D programme in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Geo-Informatics, Management and English has been introduced from academic session 2012-13.

Keeping its status of an Institute of National Importance, RGIPT follows rigorous selection process for admission in all programmes. Admissions to B. Tech. programmes are made

through IIT-JEE ranking whereas M. Tech. students are admitted through GATE followed by Screening Test and Personal Interview. MBA admission in Petroleum & Energy Management Programme is based on CAT/ GMAT/XAT followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview of candidates by experts & professionals from Oil & Gas industry.

To ensure highest standards of education and training to the students, RGIPT has been following the IITs standard in the selection of faculty. Most of the faculty members have Ph. D. degrees from renowned universities of India like IITs, IIMs and foreign universities and have rich industry experience. Apart from regular faculty, RGIPT regularly invites industry experts for guest lecture to keep the students abreast with the latest happenings in industry.

We firmly believe that quality of students, their industrial exposure and training provided by our experienced faculty will definitely prove worthy in hydrocarbon industries. But, this journey to develop young leaders for energy industry could be continued with industry support only. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology is open to collaborate with any esteemed organization for training and R&D work and is looking for suggestions and guidance to make it a world class educational institution.

RGIPT, bridging gap between Industry and Academia

We firmly believe

that quality of students, their industrial exposure and training provided by our experienced faculty will definitely prove worthy in hydrocarbon industries.

Note of Gratitude
