Help Us Build Parenting Communities Boys Town’s Common Sense Parenting® (CSP) program wants to collaborate with schools, churches and other community support agencies to create “Parenting Communities” that can help children become successful scholars. Using a logical and caring approach, our goal is to work together with teachers, community partners and parents to develop a positive discipline approach that unifies and enhances the way our communities educate, encourage and enable children toward success. Creating Connected Communities Community agencies work together to improve and expand children’s academic and social skills. The outcome of our partnership is a stable and connected community whose common-ground services provide children with consistent learning opportunities and skills for self-discipline and self-improvement. Proven, Positive Outcomes Our Common Sense Parenting program provides various educational training supports for professionals, parents and children. Once professionals are trained, they can use their knowledge to support what parents and children learn in our various programs in order to increase school success for children, reinforce skills that build happier homes and promote strategies for developing productive communities. Parenting Cafés Parenting Cafes comprise six sessions that provide professionals with basic knowledge of the CSP program and tools for sharing this service with families. Programs The three training components for creating and enhancing a “Parenting Community” are: 1) Parenting Cafés for professionals; 2) Common Sense Parenting classes for parents; and 3) Boys Town’s Time-to-Enrich Aſterschool Program for school-age children. Time to Enrich Program These interactive sessions promote self- discipline, integrity and communication training for children of all school ages (K-12). During six weekly sessions, children use problem-solving and skill practice to complete high-energy learning activities. Parenting Classes CSP classes are informative, educational sessions that give parents the skills they need to support their children’s success. The evidence-based Common Sense Parenting program offers a six-week training class for parents of school-age children. Parents learn positive discipline skills for improving their children’s behavior and effective routines, rules and social skills that promote school success.
