B. Professional Information
1. Programme aims:
The program aims to produce clinical pharmacists capable of providing specialist
pharmaceutical services in all clinical environments, thereby enhancing the quality
use of medicine. The programme fosters pharmacists who can attain a successful

career and provide skilled and ethical pharmaceutical care. This is achieved through
developing a programme with an appropriate mix of basic, pharmaceutical, medical,
social, behavioral management, health and environmental sciences. Graduates will be
able to take a leading role in the decision making process of drug and drug product
selection for individual patients, provide specialist drug information and education
programs to patients and health care professionals effectively monitor a patient's
therapy and critically evaluate clinical research.
This multidisciplinary programme is designed to prepare our pharmacy graduates to
have a powerful impact in the various fields of pharmacy including community
pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical firms, pharmaceutical Industrial companies as
well as, academic and research institutes.
I. Attributes of the graduates:
The graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University should demonstrate
outstanding skills as follows:
I.1. Be able to deal with and handle chemicals and natural products in a safe way.
I.2. Handle pharmaceutical products effectively according to pharmacy law and
legislations.
I.3. Formulate and dispense different pharmaceutical products.
I.4. Apply principles of quality control and quality assurance for pharmaceutical
products and natural products.
I.5. Analyze qualitatively and quantitatively raw materials, pharmaceutical products,
and biological samples
I.6. Perform according to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Pharmaceutical
Manufacturing Practice (GPMP) and current Good Manufacturing Practice
(cGMP) guidelines
I.7. Educate patients and community about proper and safe use of medications as
well as risks of abuse drugs, radiation and different xenobiotics.
I.8. Provide patients with information about the purpose and use of medications and
medical devices.
I.9. Provide patient care using different patient counseling techniques, therapeutic
plan and documentation.

III.10. Select the appropriate medication, non-medication and/or radio-therapy for a

Summer Training: (graduation requirement) (300 hour)
Every student should complete at least 200 hours (100 credit hours) of training in pharmacy
settings such as community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical firms or
research institutes and universities. A further 100 credit hours of clinical training in a

6. Programme admission requirements
The Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University complies with the admission
regulations and requirements of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities
(ESCU).
General secondary school certificate with major in biology and chemistry, or an
equivalent certificate from a foreign institute recognized by the university allowed
to apply for the course.
Courses completed at another faculty are evaluated for equivalency to the Faculty
of Pharmacy, Cairo University courses.
a. Transfer Admission Requirement
Transfer students must fulfill the Faculty of Pharmacy admission requirement.
Courses completed at another faculty are evaluated for equivalency to the Faculty
of Pharmacy, Cairo University courses.
The faculty from which the student is to be transferred should be accredited.
b. Courses Registration
Academic advisors are available to help students select the required and suitable
courses from the list of the offered courses. Selection of the courses for any given year
is conditional on the successful completion of the prerequisite course of the preceding
academic year.
c. Courses Load
The course load is the number of registered credit hours per student each semester.
The academic load in each semester ranges from 12-22 credit hours.
The academic load in the summer semester ranges from 4 to 10 credit hours.
Credits acquired by the student are those of passed courses from the registered
academic load.
d. Add, Drop and Withdrawal
Students are allowed to add or drop a course or more during specified time every semester.
Students are allowed to withdraw from a course prior to specified deadline set by the
University. The course will carry a grade “W” and students will be allowed to retake the

course when available. Students who withdraw after the deadline will not be allowed to sit for

e. Attendance
Students are expected to attend the university on a full-time basis during each semester.
Attendance is checked during seminars, tutorials and labs. Students must attend at least 70%
of the tutorials and practical labs to be allowed to submit the final exams. If absence in a
course exceeded the allowed percentage (25%) during the first two weeks of the semester
(either excused or unexcused), the student will not be allowed to sit for the exam of the
relevant subject and will carry grade “F”.
