Welcome to Aalborg

As mayor of Aalborg Municipality, I extenda warm welcome to theInternational Youth Games 2019!

I am truly proud that, for the 12th time, Aalborg is host for such a large event withapproximately 1.100 young people who aregathering together in the name of sport andfriendship. Two things that add such tremendous value to life – I know this frommy own life and that of my three children. As in 2015, the headquarters will be locatedat Aalborg Freja. It is just a short walk tothe city centre and to our fantastic VestreFjordpark, which offers plenty of water activities that I am sure you will enjoy. Especially if the summer heat and sun maketheir appearance. Aalborg is a town that has changed froman industrial town to a city of educationwith a record number of students. Today,one in five residents is a student – as I amsure you have noticed. Our young residentscan be seen and their presence felt as theygather in the cafés and the cosy loungeareas along the waterfront. We have chosen to build many of the city’sstudent residences along the fjord, becausewe want living in Aalborg to be attractive.Hopefully, some of you will return – not justas participants in the Youth Games, but alsoas students in the future!I hope you will experience that, here in Aalborg, we are working resolutely to become one of Denmark’s best sports cities,where sports have a special status. We are constantly endeavouring to developa city where big events are never far away.Whether you like culture or nature, it is myhope that, between competitions, you will

take advantage of some of the big attractions the city has to offer. In fact, theNew York Times ranks Aalborg as no. 8 onits list of cities around the world you shouldvisit. As inspiration, I recommend: AalborgZOO, Springeren – Maritime ExperienceCentre, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art,Musikkens Hus concert hall, Utzon Centre,Lille Vildmose nature centre.Wishing you all a wonderful tournament.

The vault-landing will be on a softer landingmat than normal competitions.If you want to apply for vaultfinal, you must perform two vaults (WAG & MAG).In WAG both agegroups and competitiongroups can perform two different vaults, but fromthe same group.It is permitted to use mats on floor for acrobatic tumbling.The specific competitionplan will be presented at the competitionday.
