WELCOME MESSAGE
Dear Brothers and Sisters, AsSalaam o Alaikum!
The Majlis e Shura of the Islamic Society of Tulsa would like to welcome you to
our Mosque.
Over the last two years we have made concerted efforts to improve
communications with our community members and keep them informed of the
events including educational events in our community. This current issue of the
Program Guide for Spring Semester is a part of those efforts.
We appreciate the hard work of all our volunteers who serve our mosque only for
the purpose of seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT.
We hope and pray that this coming year will bring a lot of new programs and more
volunteers and that Allah SWT will unite us more and make our Mosque
financially stronger. This will require a commitment from each us to serve the
Almighty. We urge you to volunteer at the mosque and enroll in our monthly
donation program for the Mosque through our website or by contacting any
member of Majlis e Shura.
May Allah keep us united as we implement our vision to embrace and disseminate
the true message of Islam based on Divine guidance from Quran and Sunnah of
Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, through our educational programs,
humanitarian work and continued worship to Allah while seeking His guidance.
JazakAllah Khair for your continued support.

IST FOOD PANTRY
IST Food Pantry is open on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10am-12pm and as needed
for emergency food assistance. The food pantry also distributes produce weekly to clients that
are in need of this service. We currently serve over 70 local families. About 40% of the
individuals in those families are children under the age of 18, close to 10% are seniors. The
food pantry serves individuals and families of all backgrounds. The food pantry does not
discriminate on any basis.
To receive food assistance, individuals must complete an application, provide proof of address
and a photo ID. (This information is kept confidential) Some clients do not qualify for food
assistance through government programs. Some clients only come once when they’ve been sick
and needed supplemental assistance for a limited amount of time. Whatever the situation may
be, IST’s Food Pantry is here to serve those in need. If you or someone you know needs food
assistance, please contact Sister Crystal at 918-402-1564 or email
[email protected]. Food Pantry applications can be found on IST’s Website. Go to
the Services tab, click on Social Services and you’ll find the Food Pantry Program.
Applications for food assistance are also located outside the pantry at the back of the mosque.
For the month of January, the Food Pantry is requesting flour, sugar, oil,
dry lentils, dry/canned chickpeas, canned fava beans (foul) and dry pasta (spaghetti,
penne, macaroni elbows)
We would like to thank those that have contributed to the food pantry. Providing us with
donations, cleaning the pantry and help with pickup/distribute/deliver food to our clients. A
special thanks to Peace Academy for collecting 600+ canned/boxed food items for us!
Want to become a volunteer or donate? We would love for you to join us! Please contact Sister

Evening Qur’an School
Ages 4-10 years children 8yrs and up must know the basics of alphabets to qualify
for admission.
The Goal and objectives of the Qur’an School is to teach our children to read the
Holy Qur’an. We start with the alphabet and then add on one harakat of tajweed at
a time. In all we have 10 levels. Children who finish the 10 levels are able to read
the verses of the Qur’an accurately after which they are automatically enrolled in
the Qur’an reader’s group. In the readers’ group we have 3 levels (beginners,
Intermediate, and advanced). If a 4 year old child enrolls in the class and if the
child has parental support, then they can advance one level per month and start
reading the Qur’an at the end of the first year.
Classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 6:30pm and
7:30pm. Timings fluctuate slightly with prayer times due to the fact that we
encourage our students as well as their parents to offer prayer in congregation
while they are at the Masjid. (Establish Salah)
Parental support is an integral part of the program as well as a requirement. We
ask parents to develop the Qur’an reading program at home on a daily basis and in
particular on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We require our students to read at
least 10 verses of the Qur’an each day once they come in the readers category.
Discipline is an important aspect of the Qur’an school. We have rules of conduct
for students, rules of conduct for teachers and rules of conduct for parents.
