Welcome to the DeVos Sport Business Management Graduate Program at the University of Central Florida. Our comprehensive curriculum provides a unique, team-based, integrative business approach and a global sports network in a hands-on environment. The DeVos program offers students the opportunity to earn their Master’s in Sports Business Management (MSBM) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). LAPCHICK ENDOWED CHAIR AND DIRECTOR WELCOME PROGRAM OVERVIEW The DeVos Sport Business Management Program will give you critical sport business management knowledge, skills and leadership abilities in an environment of uncompromising ethical values that emphasizes both the standards of doing good business and the desire to make community service and philanthropy cornerstones in your organization. The program’s vision came from Orlando Magic owners Rich and Helen DeVos, who have been dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives and to helping people help themselves. In addition, the partnership with the Orlando Magic gives students the opportunity to learn and develop professional skills on the job. COURSEWORK/CURRICULUM Upon completion of the DeVos Program, students earn both a MS in Sport Business Management and an MBA. The 22-month program consists of 54 credit hours over one and a half years concluding with an internship at a nationally recognized sports organization. The coursework will allow students to develop integrated marketing and sales plans, design a business plan, optimize the use of technology, implement fundraising strategies, and carry out the research necessary to become a leader in the world of sport. THINKING BEYOND. DR. LAPCHICK Dr. Lapchick joined the UCF College of Business and accepted the endowed chair of the DeVos Sport Business Manage- ment Program in 2001. In his leadership role with the DeVos Program, Dr. Lapchick brings to UCF his commitment to equality and his belief that sport can be an effective instrument of positive social change. He is the only person named as “One of the 100 Most Powerful People in Sport” to head up a sport management program. Dr. Lapchick has been the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of the Commonwealth Nations in 1999 in the category of Humanitarian along with Arthur Ashe and Nelson Mandela and received the Ralph Bunche Internation- al Peace Award. He joined Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson, Arthur Ashe and Wilma Rudolph in the Sport in Society Hall of Fame in 2004. Dr. Lapchick also received the Champions Award from the Alliance of Women’s Coaches, the only male to receive the award in 2012. The Black Coaches Association presented him with their Distinguished Ser- vice Award in 2012, which is only the second time they have presented this award in 28 years. KEITH HARRISON Director and Associate Professor Dr. Harrison has over 25 years of experience in sports and research in the areas of diversity, education, and sport management. Dr. Harrison works with Professor Bukstein as a CONSULTANT AND RESEARCHER FOR THE NFL and advises the NFL Player Engagement department. MICHAEL REDLICK Director of External Affairs and Partnerships Mike brings to the program over two decades of professional sport experience having served in key leadership positions with the SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS, MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES, CLEVELAND BROWNS, CLEVELAND CAVALIERS, AND INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY AND INDYCAR SERIES. SCOTT BUKSTEIN Assistant Director, Graduate Program Professor Bukstein develops and manages relationships with different sport and entertainment organizations for the program. Previously he worked as a corporate attorney, where he represented clients in mergers and acquisitions and also PROVIDED LEGAL COUNSEL TO SEVERAL SPORT ORGANIZATIONS. COMMUNITY SERVICE Community service is part of the program’s holistic approach to developing the next generation of leaders in sport business. Working in teams, students spend 90 hours with a local organization. This allows them to experience the powerful impact of volunteering and its benefits to individuals, organizations and the community at large. HOPE FOR STANLEY One of the most notable community service opportunities for DeVos students is provided by the Hope for Stanley Alliance. Its mission is to create opportunities for people in sports across the United States to help rebuild and revive areas affected by natural disaster. More specifically, Hope for Stanley focuses on rebuilding the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. DR. LAPCHICK Dr. Lapchick joined the UCF College of Business and accepted the endowed chair of the DeVos Sport Business Manage-ment Program in 2001. In his leadership role with the DeVos Program, Dr. Lapchick brings to UCF his commitment to equality and his belief that sport can be an eff ective instrument of positive social change.
