ntroduction to Effective Protection of Human Rights - A Learning Course for Governments and their Diplomats Organised by the Edelstam Institute for Education of Human Rights and International Affairs PROGRAM OVERVIEW WEEKEND: XX-XX XXXXX Sessions Friday, XX/XX Saturday, XX/XX Sunday, XX/XX Introduction to Human Rights The UN Mechanisms Conventions on Rights Session 1 09:00- 10:30 - Introduction: Presentation of the participants, the course team, the programme, its objective and its methodology, the course rules and logistics. - Introduction to UNDHR, ICCPR, and ICESCR. - Facilitator 2 gives introduction to the work of the High Commissioner of Human Rights, the UN Council of Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteurs, the different human rights Committees, and the CESCR. Facilitator 3 gives an introduction to the Conventions on: - Women - Children - Migrants - Refugees - Asylum - Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Apartheid -Torture - Indigenous population - Disabled persons - Protection against enforced disappearance - Stateless persons - Traffic of human beings - Slavery. - Prevention of crimes against internationally protected persons including diplomatic agents. Session 2 11:00- 12:30 Facilitator 1 develops the main instruments for UNDHR, ICCPR, and ICESCR. Facilitator 3 introduces the main reports from the Special Rapporteurs. Report analysis and strategy development. Facilitator 1 on human rights in relation to the concept of state, states’ duties, and with regard to political or factual powers, media, civil society, NGOs, international organizations, and democratic processes. Interactive group exercise ROTATING FACILITATOR

Interactive group discussions, case studies together with facilitator. 30 min discussion and case study, 5 pause, etc. 4 case studies in total. 30 minutes all together in plenum discussion.

Open questions / Closing

Session 4 16:30-18:00

- Analysis with facilitator from a multidisciplinary perspective on human rights. - Philosophical and ethical theories and discussions regarding human rights.
