Axial piston units are available inthe form of pumps and motors inbent axis design or swashplate de-sign for medium and high pressureranges. They are the main com-ponents in the hydrostatic trans-mission. Compact size and highpower density, economy and reli-ability are characteristic advantagespromoting the use of hydrostatictransmissions, together with thefact that they meet the demand forhigh speed and high torque, as wellas optimum efficiency.

MCR radial piston motors are low-speed hydraulic motors basedon the multi-stroke principle. The relationship between roll dia-meter and cam profile is optimizedinside the central rotary group, thus ensuring the best possiblebalance of forces between pistonand cam path, as well as extendingthe service life. The step-pistonrotary group or high-displacementrotary group yields a very compactdrive unit with high power density.MCR motors can be used foroperation in both open and closedcircuits.

Hydrostatic Steering Units LAG

4LAGCThe delivery volume in servo mode(supplied by the hydraulic pump)and in emergency mode (supplyfailure) is the same in the LAGCunit.

LAGU and LAGZThe force required on the steeringwheel is reduced through thechange in transmission ratio whenthe LAGU and LAGZ units areinstalled. In many cases, this is theessential prerequisite for compli-ance with permissible ceilings.A second steering pump is oftenunnecessary. The steering unit LAGU operatesaccording to the principle of 2:1chamber isolation. The delivery vo-lume is halved in emergency opera-tion.The installed dimensions areidentical with those of the LAGCunit for the same sizes.

The steering unit LAGZ operateswith two rotor sets in servo opera-tion. One rotor set is deactivated in emergency operation, thusreducing the delivery volume. The manual force is reducedproportionally with the deliveryvolume.Rotor sets can be combined as de-sired within the individual series, thus permitting transmission ratiosof 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, ...

Steering unit LAGU The steering unit LAG is used

in the hydraulic steering cir-cuits of motor vehicles andmobile machines with highaxle loads and driving speedsof up to 50 km/h.

U Even heavy vehicles can besteered without difficulty withthe aid of a steering unit. Theabsence of a mechanical con-nection between steering unitand steered axle makes it pos-sible to realize designs whichwould be impossible with con-ventional steering systems.

U The steering unit contains allthe necessary valves for safe-guarding the steering unit andcylinder in the hydraulic stee-ring circuit, thus eliminatingthe need for additional piping.

U Vehicles with LAG steering unitcan also be steered manually ifthe hydraulic pump fails, as the steering unit then serves asmanual pump to the steeringcylinder.

Planetary gears are exceedinglycompact and therefore eminentlysuitable for installation in frequent-ly confined spaces, such as in mo-bile machines. Depending on therequired transmission ratio, theyhave two, three or more planetarystages, sometimes also in combina-tion with spur gear or bevel gearstages.Modified gears are also availablefor specific drive systems, especiallyfor high torques, in addition to thelarge range of standard gears.

Top-quality gearing and high-gradematerials make these gears reliabledrive components. This is addition-ally ensured by a quality manage-ment system to DIN ISO 9001,modern machine tools and up-to-date assembly and test technology. The gearboxes are designed formounting on or in hydraulicmotors and are normally suppliedtogether with the latter. Others can be driven by electric motors orhave free shaft ends for mountingsuch connecting elements as coupl-ings or belt pulleys.Continuous monitoring of themarket and technological deve-lopments in engineering designand manufacturing yield gearboxesproduced to state-of-the-artstandards.

6The mobile electronics sectorsupplies components meeting allthe requirements for use in mobilemachines. Their great reliabilitywhen subjected to rough mecha-nical handling, in extreme summerand winter conditions, and in thepresence of electromagnetic andelectrostatic interference has beendemonstrated in tests and provedin everyday use.The programmability of compo-nents for mobile electronics makesit possible to realize intelligent newsolutions in addition to standardfunctions and to incorporate theelectronic control units into othermachine systems through this com-munication.

With programmable control units, sensors, input devices and othercomponents, the mobile electronicsrange from Rexroth includes all the parts needed for a completehydraulic drive system from asingle source. Complete solutionscombining travel functions andworking functions are optimallymatched with one another.

Tried-and-tested tools are availableas handheld units and as PC appli-cations for simple parameterizationin everyday use and effectivetroubleshooting when service isrequired.

For more ambitious users ofmobile electronics, the BODASprogramming system is a conve-nient means of developing softwareto standard IEC 61131-3.In addition to the componentspresented here, mobile electronicsis also available as “integratedelectronics and sensor systems”in hydraulic components. Thisversion yields further advantages, such as the elimination of wiring, minimization of the installationspace and preliminary testing ofthe subsystem. The “integratedelectronics” is described with therespective hydraulic components.

6U Pumps, motors and valves

with proportional or switchedelectrohydraulic control can becontrolled directly from theoutputs of the mobile electron-ic units

U Integrated electronic units inhydraulic components arepreferably controlled via theCAN bus or analog voltages

U Such input devices as joysticksand foot pedals deliver set-points in the form of inputsignals which are processed by control units, amplifiers orintegrated electronic units.

Here too, major advantages areobtained by using the CAN businstead of analog voltages, suchas the reduced wiring effortand extended diagnostic capa-bilities

U Other input signals for controlunits or amplifiers are deliver-ed by a whole variety of sen-sors. Signal transmission withanalog voltages or currentsfrequently yields the advantageof unlimited speed for real-timecontrol functions, although the CAN bus can also be usedoccasionally

U Control panels with displayand push-buttons are separatedigital computers communi-cating with the control unitsvia CAN bus

U In addition, the CAN bus per-mits communication betweenseveral control units respons-ible for different tasks in theoverall system (drive control, working functions, diesel fuelinjection, PLC functions andothers)
