aquaticsLearn to Swim

Our Learn to Swim program is based on the American Red Cross guidelines. We have developed our program to emphasize safety, parent involvement, and one of the smallest instructor-to-student ratios in the mid-Michigan area. On the first day of class, we will place participants with instructors based on specific abilities. At the end of the last week of class, students will receive a report card that will show their progression through each level.

Gym Schedule: Ever wonder if there is an open gym at a specific time? The gym schedules are posted weekly and can be located in the main hallway as well as on the dry-erase boards at courtside. Although we try our best to leave ½ court open at all times, this is not always possible. Sometimes special circumstances such as camps and leagues prevent this from happening. The next time you’re planning to utilize a gym, don’t forget to check the weekly gym schedules or call our service desk for up-to-date information.

Coach Carlton Valentine believes through hard work and dedication young players can become the best student athletes they can be. His instruction focuses on the fundamentals of ball handling, shooting, and passing through a variety of drills at game speed so the skills can transfer to any tryout, practice, game, or tournament. We feature the Gun6000 shooting machine to help players with their shot. Thanks to this unique piece of training equipment, players can practice proper form with high repetition, building great touch and shooting consistency.

The MAC Youth Volleyball Clinic is run by Wendy McCann, former varsity volleyball coach at Haslett High School. Her teams won back-to-back regional championships in 2012 and 2013 and she was named Lansing State Journal Dream Team Coach of the Year. As a college player, Coach McCann led Ferris State University to a 4th place finish in the Division II National Volleyball Championship and was named 2nd Team All-American. In 2011, she was inducted into the Ferris State Athletic Hall of Fame. Coach McCann strongly believes in teaching proper technique and motivating players to believe they can achieve success in volleyball. These camps are run by Carlton Valentine, who was Lansing State Journal High School Coach of the Year, and coached many players who went on to play Division 1 basketball. Recent players include his son Denzel Valentine, a 2016 lottery pick and current Chicago Bull, and current San Antonio Spur Bryn Forbes. Through repetition you can build the muscle memory necessary to become more confident on the floor with your teammates and have individual success. Most of all, Coach Valentine believes in having fun while training and being at camp. There will be at least one hour of scrimmage games every day to test the skills you are learning.
