The turmoil in world markets has resulted in repeated downward adjustments in the pace of economic growth on a global scale, and Hong Kong is certainly not immune to the impact.

Job seekers can expect even fiercer competition in an increasingly weak market. There is, therefore, an absolute necessity to obtain higher qualifications, and to embrace lifelong learning to safeguard one’s employability.

W ith te chnolo gy dr iv ing changes in an increasingly complex and globalized world, we must keep up with the way people are receiving and gathering information, collaborating with others, and communicating. The market these days simply leave behind those who are opposed to change or become out of touch.

Nowadays, formal training merely sets the base and marks a beginning in the learning process; it

must be supplemented and updated. Indeed, most professions mandate that their members have to earn their license to practice by continuous learning.

The acquisition of knowledge is no longer confined to the classrooms, as the learning platform has been extended to study missions, attachments, seminars and conferences, not to mention the increasingly popular e-learning mode with its ever-improving resources and facilities. And many programs are family-friendly with the flexibility built around the student’s circumstances.

This guide contains a wealth of updated information on a wide range of innovative programs that helps pave the way for your career progression and personal development.

In support of senior executives’ endeavors to maintain a competitive edge in the global market, City University of Hong Kong’s (CityU) Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program offers a combination of advanced taught subjects and rigorous applied research.

Enquiry 3442 8527Email [email protected] www.cb.cityu.edu.hk/dba

The world is currently in a state of rapid globalization and technology has become a driving force of the knowledge-intensive economy. With these changes in mind, many senior executives have become aware of the need to equip themselves better to face the new economic order.

While an MBA degree is about learning and applying pre-existing knowledge in a general business environment, a DBA allows a student to go more in-depth into a single topic. The majority of students that take an interest in a DBA don’t want the broad information taught in a Master’s degree as they have already attained them through work experience. On the other hand, while a PhD also allows one to specialize in a topic, it is considered too academic in nature. This is where a DBA fills the gap, and provides PhD-level education through practical and applicable coursework.

All students studying a DBA at CityU have over ten years of work experience. In order to match the high level of knowledge of each student, all faculty members are at least of Associate Professor level.

“We are very proud of our world-renowned professors with extensive global

expertise and in-depth China knowledge,” says Prof. Muammer Ozer, Director of CityU’s DBA programme. “Similarly,

we are very honored to work with our diverse group of students who are

successful business leaders with a passion to solve complex business

issues that have implications well beyond the boundaries of

their organizations.”

In order to graduate, students need to complete a range of coursework and a thesis. The courses will provide extensive knowledge and a solid foundation in research skills and business knowledge. In the same vein, the thesis requires substantial practice-oriented research work which is integrated with the taught methodology courses. The normal period for completion of the program is four years, with a maximum of six years.

To ensure that a DBA candidate can progress smoothly during the course of the degree, each candidate will be assigned a senior faculty member as a mentor in their first year of study. Under the guidance of the mentor, a candidate is expected to develop a structured program of study, which will lead them to identify their thesis topic and proposal.

“We hope that once our students graduate, they’ll be able to apply their research into their own organization,” says Prof. Ozer. “If they discover something beneficial to their industry or society, we hope they will share it. We speak a lot about impact, and if their research has an effect, it will be a great contribution and that precisely is what we want to achieve.”

With rising demands and keen competition in the business world, practitioners must equip themselves with the necessary skills that come with a professional qualification which helps them stand out from the crowd.

As the world’s largest and leading professional body of management accountants, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) provides individuals with the recognition of having attained the most relevant management accounting, strategy and business knowledge. Likewise, it provides businesses with the reassurance that the persons they have hired have reached a globally recognized level of proficiency within the profession.

Unlike a certified public accountant whose job focuses on reviewing and complying historical and current financial information, a management accountant focuses more on forward looking financial analysis and insights to create value for companies, says Dr. William Chen, Chairman of CIMA’s Hong Kong Branch Committee.

“Management accountants are tasked with answering a host of typical questions like: What business options should the organization invest in? What kind of business model should the organization adopt? And how can we help the organization to increase profit over the next year?” Chen adds. “CIMA is the professional body that nurtures them to be able to come up with considered answers, and to train up future business leaders.”

The examination syllabus of CIMA is based on extensive global research which has yielded in-depth business insights. They focus on a range of subjects, including ‘Advanced Management Accounting’, ‘Financial Strategy’ and ‘Risk Management’.

CIMA committed to elevating the profession and works closely with employers. In Asia, many global employers such as Jardine Matheson Group, Kerry Group, Sun Hung Kai Properties, South China Group and Swire embedding CIMA qualification on their management trainee programme. It helps to train up all-around business leaders, who can acquire the skills needed to succeed through the programme.

“In today’s fast changing business world, the volume of unstructured data as a result of digitization and globalization is increasing complexity. Quality decision making has never been more important.” Chen observes. “It makes sure that individuals are trained in handling the surge of information.”

CIMA welcomes anyone interested in joining them, and not just those with previous accounting experience. Its flexible entry policy gives anyone with a passion for business the chance to study, regardless of education background.

“I highly recommend undergraduates and postgraduates students to study CIMA, and find out what they need to do in order to become fully qualified. There are many places where management accountants can thrive, such as corporate entities, government bodies and NGOs. I believe there is a bright future for anyone entering the field,” Chen comments.

CGMA DesignationChartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA)

designation is jointly established and rewarded by The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and CIMA. It recognizes the most talented and committed management accounts and showcases their value around the world.

Both organizations aim to gain broader perspectives of the global accounting profession by virtue of cross-representation on each association’s governing body.

“A functional business should employ the knowledge brought by both a public and management accountant,” says Chen. “With this synergy in mind, the CGMA designation combines the two professions into a single qualification.”

Understanding the intricacies of languages The CityU’s Master of Arts in Language Studies programme enables students to gain an understanding of the nature of language and the various ways it impacts society.

Students wishing to take an in-depth look at how our languages are shaped will find a wide spectrum of programs in linguistics on offer around the city.

Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, HKUThe MA in Applied Linguistics (MAAL) program

offered by the Centre for Applied English Studies at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) since September 1996 is designed for those who have professional experience in English language education. The program develops students’ knowledge and skills in the teaching, learning, and applied use of the English language across a diverse range of disciplines and contexts.

The MAAL curriculum aims to develop candidates’ understanding of key concepts, theories and research related to applied English or cross-language linguistics. Throughout the course, students will gain a wide range of perspectives on the theory, policy and practice of applied linguistics.

Upon completion of the program, participants will have a critical understanding of theory in the field of applied linguistics and be able to conduct research into its practical applications.

Master of Arts in Linguistics, CUHKThe Master of Arts program in Linguistics offered by

the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) features an interdisciplinary approach to language study. It is designed to introduce students to current theories in linguistics and their various applications to language typology, language acquisition, language and modality, language teaching as well as culture and society, which are presented in a comparative framework.

The program consists of three streams: ‘General Linguistics’, ‘Language Acquisition and Bilingualism’, and ‘Sign Linguistics’.

The aim of the program is to help students in developing an understanding of the characteristic properties of languages that use the vocal-auditory channel and manual-visual channel. Graduates will also be able to conduct research with selected methodological tools used in the analysis of language form, language acquisition, and language performance, such as computerized corpora, naturalistic and experimental methods of data collection, data processing, and frameworks for analysis.

Master of Arts in Literary and Comparative Studies, HKBU

The Master’s program in Literary and Comparative Studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) offers students a focused curriculum devoted to literary applications in a global and comparative context.

The program provides an academically rigorous syllabus that balances content and methodology-based core courses with research-driven elective seminars based on colleagues’ own research. It aims to give students who already hold a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualifications, with the opportunity to test out their intellectual potential in a well-supported, research-intensive environment, and seeks to equip them with high-level skills and qualifications for advanced research degrees.

The emphasis of the degree is on producing quality graduates with demonstrable English language competencies and highly-regarded scholarly credentials. The program examines literatures against their intellectual, historical, social and political contexts.

Language study is a multifaceted subject that encompasses many different areas. With this in mind, the Master of Arts in Language Studies (MALS) programme at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) gives students the option to focus on a particular aspect of language and its interaction with a particular societal or cultural process, be it the structure of language, language and translation and interpretation, and applications of language studies.

Upon completion of their studies, students will be able to reflect critically on the nature of language, and the issues of language in its actual use.

Students are required to complete 30 credits units or the equivalent of ten courses for the Master of Arts degree.

Distinctive approachesIn pursuing the programme, students can choose one

of four different streams, which include: ‘General Linguistics’, ‘Corpus and Empirical Linguistics’, ‘Pedagogical Linguistics’ and ‘Translation and Interpretation’. Each stream includes three core courses which students must fully complete.

The General Linguistics stream aims to provide students with the skill to analyze the structure of language, generate innovative linguistic analyses; reflect critically on the social, cultural and psychological aspects of language use, and apply such knowledge in their work.

Likewise, the Corpus and Empirical Linguistics stream applies a range of conceptual skills, with a focus on the corpus and latest empirical tools, to enhance students’ ability and efficiency in generating creative solutions to language tasks, and to reflect

critically on the multifaceted issues involved in the application of language studies.

The Pedagogical Linguistics stream will teach students a range of concepts and skills to language learning and its related pedagogical applications.

Lastly, the Translation and Interpretation stream will enhance students’ ability in generating creative solutions to translation and interpretation tasks, and reflect critically on the multifaceted issues involved in translation and interpretation.

In addition to the core courses, there is also a range of elective courses available. When selecting their courses, in order to fulfill the stream requirements, students must choose from the list under their designated streams.

If a student wishes to take the LT6580 Master’s Project, they are allowed to take one less course as the project is worth six credits.

All courses in the MALS programme are taught with English as the medium of instruction. However, certain courses will be supplemented by either or a combination of Putonghua, Cantonese and Chinese.

The programme offers both full-time and part-time modes with classes being held during the evening, and, if necessary, the weekends in order to satisfy the needs of all students.

Combining in-depth study with a strong theoretical focus, HKU’s MALCS provides essential knowledge and skills for students to cultivate their critical thinking and their understanding of cultural and social issues.

Enquiry 3917 2760Email [email protected] www.complit.hku.hk/malcs

Since 1994, the Master of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies (MALCS) programme at The University of Hong Kong has been training students to demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills, to expand their appreciation of intercultural relations and cultural forms, and to pursue intellectual inquiry using communication skills as well as analytical skills.

MALCS students engage a wide range of key cultural theories, literature, and films, and explore historical and contemporary issues in modernity and globalization.

Offered by the Department of Comparative Literature, this taught postgraduate degree trains students to be critics of culture and to contribute to the writing and production of literary and film on different platforms. It also equips students with crucial knowledge and skills to pursue academic advancement.

The objectives of MA in Literary and Cultural Studies are:• To broaden and deepen student knowledge of cultural

theories and different approaches in literary, film and cultural studies.

• To cultivate critical thinking through engagement with the key debates and texts in literary, film and cultural studies.

• To encourage appreciation of diverse cultural practices and contexts within a global frame, with emphasis on but not limited to those of Hong Kong, modern Chinese, and Asian culture.

Inter-disciplinary ApproachThe study of film and literature engages the perspectives of

post-structuralism, deconstruction, psychoanalysis, feminism, postmodernism, and Marxist and post-colonial criticism.

Broad ExposureThe programme will provide structured learning activities

including lectures, discussions, workshops, writing and oral presentations, where robust exchange of ideas and thoughts takes place.

Academic EventsBeyond the classroom, students are given the chance

to connect with each other thru organized events. In 2016, MALCS set up a well-attended international conference on ‘Contextualizing Asian Ecocinema: Past and Future’ with participation from international and local scholars.

In addition, the school invited established writers and scholars to hold seminars, and film directors to hold post-screening sessions after on-campus screenings. MALCS students can find events and opportunities to exchange ideas with and learn from renowned writers, artists and scholars.

Career AdvancementFor over a decade, the MALCS programme has prepared

many graduates to perform well in their careers in teaching, cultural programming, writing, research, creative work, and administrative positions with essential skills. Graduates are trained to perceptively interpret what is happening in the world and to view cultures with a critical eye and a creative mindset.

CUHK’s MA in Chinese Studies provides essential knowledge and skills for students to have their fingers on the pulse of China’s past, present and future and enhance their career potential.

Enquiry 3943 4392Email [email protected] www.cuhk.edu.hk/ccs

In recent years, China has gained a significant place in the world in terms of economic and political influence. Understanding the country has become an important task for those who aspire to a global vision.

The Master of Arts in Chinese Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong aims to enhance candidates’ skills and knowledge for the interdisciplinary study of China. The program is taught and examined in English and offers two streams: Chinese Arts and Culture, and Issues in Contemporary China.

“One of our program’s distinguishing features is its flexibility. We provide a wide range of elective courses, and our students can also take China-related courses offered by other departments at CUHK,” says Dr. Kristof Van den Troost, Deputy Program Director.

Dr. Van den Troost believes the program sharpens the competitive edge of both Chinese and overseas students.

“Students from overseas will learn the necessary skills and knowledge to operate within Chinese culture and society. The

knowledge they gain in aspects like Chinese culture, politics and economy, is a powerful asset, helping them to build bridges between different cultures.”

Dr. Van den Troost adds, “For Chinese students who already possess a better understanding of their country, the program provides a fresh, objective view. We help students understand China from a global perspective, which is useful in their further studies and careers.”

The career paths of graduates are diverse. “Some pursue careers in media, business or finance, while others find a position in government or teach in secondary schools. We also have an excellent track record of graduates being accepted for further studies at top educational institutions in Hong Kong and abroad,” adds Dr. Van den Troost.

The rapid pace of technological advancements has led to electronic gadgets becoming an inherent part of people’s daily lives. To help those interested in gaining a better understanding of the impact these devices are bringing to the world, there is a range of programs on offer in Hong Kong.

Master of Science (ECom & IComp), HKU

The MSc in Electronic Commerce and Internet Computing programme at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is the first of its kind offered in the Asia Pacific region. Established in 1999, it is a one-year full-time and two-year part-time program designed for business executives, policy and decision makers, managers and information technology professionals to equip them with the latest knowledge and skills about technology development and business opportunities in electronic commerce on the Internet.

The program’s curriculum is visionary and comprehensive, comprising core knowledge courses deemed essential for e-commerce and Internet computing professionals for the present as well as for the future. These courses are grouped as inter-related clusters which together give students a holistic understanding of e-commerce.

Master of Science in Electronic Engineering, CUHKContinuous professional development is essential to

electronic engineers to open new doors and to excel at work. This is what the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) wants to provide through its MSc in Electronic Engineering program.

Present day electronic engineers face many challenges as new applications require multi-disciplinary skills. More than just conventional electronics, one needs to understand optics, solar technology and nano devices, among other subjects. There is a paradigm shift in design considerations, as cost effectiveness and high performance are no longer the only concerns. Engineers are asked to grasp issues like green regulations and carbon emission factor. Added to all this, there is a trend of moving from electrons to photons in order to maintain the accelerating speed in computing and communication.

CUHK seeks to prepare their students with all of the necessary knowledge that they will need in order to handle such topics should they enter an electronics-related career.

Master of Science in Electronic and Information Engineering, PolyU

The MSc in Electronic and Information Engineering program on offer at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (polyU) is an ideal choice for those who would like to pursue advanced education in electronic and information engineering. Graduates of the program are professionally trained to meet their career and industry needs. The program features an application-oriented curriculum which addresses latest technologies and their applications, enabling students to explore new technology innovations highly relevant to their profession and interest.

Subjects are taught by a team of eminent international and local experts who are all working on the cutting edge of advanced technology in the relevant fields. Apart from conventional classroom teaching, the program adopts a student-centered teaching approach with flexible modes of delivery. In addition to lectures, tutorials and practical laboratories, some subjects are taught in workshop mode. Teaching activities are well supported by excellent state-of-the-art facilities available at the school’s laboratories.

Widening perspectives in the study of electronics

Information Technology (IT) is a field that is changing rapidly, and has in turn created a scenario where leaders and new players alike need to constantly update their industry knowledge.

The Master of Science in Information Technology programme at HKUST provides students with a strong theoretical foundation in all areas of information technology. At the same time the courses are designed to give students hands-on, applied insights across the broad range of subject areas. Through the dual emphasis on theory and applications, the programme aims to train the next generation of leaders in the IT industry.

To keep students abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the IT world, the courses cover such dominant and emerging areas as Big Data, Data Mining and Advanced Networking Technologies.

In view of the dynamic nature of the IT industry, the skill-sets acquired just a few years ago are quickly rendered obsolete. IT practitioners feel the pressure to acquire new skills on a continuous basis in order to protect their human capital from erosion.

“In a rapidly changing field like IT, it is imperative that our courses and program are updated regularly to keep pace with progress,” says Prof. Cunsheng Ding, Program Director, Master of Science in Information Technology and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. “All of our courses are taught by professors in the department who are world-class researchers/experts from the industry working on cutting-edge technologies.”

Prof. Ding takes pride in the advanced training provided by the MSc-IT programme at HKUST which, he says, is very relevant to market requirements. He also notes that an undergraduate degree these days is no longer sufficient to move up the career ladder. Acute technical expertise and

Gearing up for the ever-growing information technology industryWith increasing demand for experts with up-to-date knowledge of the information technology industry, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is offering a programme designed to satisfy this need.

strong leadership skills are indispensible qualities as the IT industry powers on.

The programme is offered in both full-time and part-time modes. Part-time students are typically from the IT industry, or from IT teams of other companies and government organizations, while full-time students are usually new graduates with a bachelor degree. Prof. Ding believes that the advanced training they acquire will stand them in good stead in their career progression and leadership roles in their profession.

What lies aheadMany people believe that IT industry is here to stay as it

has become the backbone for many traditional industries like manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare, as well as emerging industries like entertainment, multimedia, and mobile services. There is a bright future for the industry with plenty of room for further growth.

As the Chinese economy shifts gear and moves towards more value-added fields, there will be increasing reliance on IT expertise, thereby opening up more opportunities for IT practitioners.

In the same vein, many IT giants like Google, Apple and Microsoft are setting up their Asian large-scale data centers in Hong Kong in order to meet the growing needs of the Asian market. The city is likely to emerge as the Asian hub for Cloud and Data Center operations.

Gesa Schwantes, Director of Architectural Conservation Laboratory (ACLab)

Heralding the first conservation-dedicated postgraduate programme among all the universities in China, the University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) Master of Science in Conservation degree and the Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation are rigorous professional development programmes designed to engage students in the latest conservation pedagogies.

“When you hear the word ‘conservation’, you usually associate it with museum studies or archaeology,” says Dr. Lee Ho Yin, Associate Professor and Head of Division of Architectural Conservation Programmes (ACP). “However, the modern ideas of conservation first emerged about 15 years ago, and started fitting within the larger concept of sustainable development, especially in places like Hong Kong.”

To keep abreast of current developments, the programmes are rigorous in both theory and practice, integrating real world settings into an academic curriculum. The courses are packed with practical training and experiential learning opportunities, as well as local and overseas field studies, to such places as Macau, cities in Mainland China and Southeast Asia.

“The pedagogical objective is to deliver a global, advanced vision to our students, and teach them the international protocol on how to achieve a sustainable future through conservation, how to prolong the life cycle of a historical building, and how to manage the pace of change,” he explains. “We hope our students learn to embrace the uniqueness of a building in terms of both historical and aesthetic values, while keeping its social value.”

Allocating enormous resources for its students, the postgraduate programmes are taught by renowned and experienced faculty members who are experts in the field from around the world. In addition, students are able to gain access to the latest equipments in the brand new conservation laboratory.

The programmes have consolidated HKU’s reputation as a center of academic excellence in conservation at the regional, national and international levels. The Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Conservationists (HKICON) was established in 2010 by a group of dedicated ACP graduates, with support from the Government’s Development Bureau. With professional experience, graduates of the MSc (Conservation) programme are eligible to become Professional Members of HKICON, while graduates of the PDip (Conservation) programme are eligible to become Associate Members of the Institute.

ACP’s postgraduate students are mostly working professionals in related field, such as surveying, urban planning, engineering and architecture. “We are looking for students who are passionate about conservation, and want to pursue a career in this particular area. Most of our graduates are now working in government agencies or private practice, with architectural, engineering, surveying, real estate and property development companies, but working on conservation-related projects,” he concludes.

The MEd offered by the Education University of Hong Kong prepares educators with the necessary knowledge to become leaders in their field.

As a highly-regarded discipline in tertiary education, law taught in the university requires a high level of quality and integrity. HKU’s Faculty of Law takes this prerequisite to heart and even further.

Established in April 2010, the graduate school of The Education University of Hong Kong has been playing an active role in catering to the needs for professional enhancement as well as research training for people with an interest in education and related disciplines.

One of the core programmes studied within the school is the Master of Education degree. Its aim is to strengthen the foundational knowledge of individuals in education and deepen their study in certain areas of focus.

D e s i g n e d to su p p o r t s t u d e nt s i n integrating their past experience with new insights in theory, practice and leadership, the programme’s curriculum combines specialist study and a broad-based education in professional reflection, assessment and research methods. It provides flexible learning routes for students from different knowledge backgrounds.

Upon graduation, students will be able to review educational research critically, and conduct educational inquiries independently.

While completing the programme, students have two routes to pursue: Generalist or Specialist. The Generalist path is for those with a broad interest in education, while the Specialist option provides in-depth professional knowledge in a specific area of focus. These areas include: ‘Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment’, ‘Early Childhood Education’ and ‘Special Needs, Giftedness and Counseling’, among others

For ‘Early Childhood Education’, students will be taught issues that are not only critical in terms of being fundamental to early childhood education, but also in that they present ideas and utilize frameworks which are current and relevant to the field. They will be encouraged to review and analyze current issues in early childhood education using a range of theoretical perspectives.

In ‘Special Needs, Giftedness and Counseling’, students will explore topics such as the social and emotional development of students with special educational needs. Particular attention

will be given to the ways in which schooling can contribute to the development or exacerbation of social, emotional and behavioral difficulties, and the measures that educational professionals can take to prevent such problems from occurring, and intervene effectively if and when they arise.

In the same vein, the course also examines the needs of parents and families for additional support, such as new immigrant families, lone-parent families, low income families, ethnic minority families, cross-border families, domestic violence, and families with children with special education needs.

Overseas opportunitiesTo enrich students’ learning experiences, the programme

provides an opportunity for students to take one to two courses at the school’s partner universities overseas during their study period.

Students will study abroad during semester breaks for about three to six weeks. Through this overseas engagement opportunity, students will be able to develop their global perspectives and enrich their learning experience, and thus establish an international network for future collaboration.

Since its establishment, the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has placed great emphasis on the quality of postgraduate education, and values innovative, high-impact and leading-edge research within and across disciplines. The faculty strongly encourages and supports international and interdisciplinary collaboration on research, and regularly participates in research that advances the cultural, social and economic welfare of society.

With the aim of training students to become legal professionals, a wide range of postgraduate programmes and courses that focuses on human rights, Chinese law, corporate and financial law, information technology and intellectual property, and arbitration are offered by the faculty.

Juris DoctorThe JD is a full-time, two-year law degree that provides

comprehensive and in-depth legal education to students without prior background in law. The emphasis of the programme is not on rote learning of legal rules, but on

critical appreciation and assessment of the underpinnings of these rules. The programme distinguishes itself by its small class size as JD students will be taught as a separate group of about 40. The school believes that an intimate environment will facilitate interaction and enhance the learning experience.

Courses on interdisciplinary and theoretical approaches to law are a required component of the programme and will challenge students not only to understand what law is, but also to contemplate what it should be.

Doctor of Legal ScienceThe degree of Doctor of Legal Science is a doctoral

research programme which comprises a research thesis with a coursework component. It is mainly intended for students who are interested in conducting research in the field of law, and who would like to benefit from a more structured research programme to assist them in writing the doctoral thesis. It is modeled on new developments in Australian universities, which in turn were borrowed from US law schools.

Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL)

The HKU PCLL programme is a leading professional legal education programme devoted to the training of intending lawyers in Hong Kong. The programme is mainly aimed at intending solicitors and barristers in Hong Kong who have completed their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent legal studies, either in Hong Kong or other common law jurisdictions, or have passed the Common Professional Examinations or equivalent.

The programme instills and strengthens core competences of legal skills required of solicitors and barristers practicing in Hong Kong. These skills include legal research and writing, document drafting and analysis, problem-solving and advocacy.
