AboutSri Mahligai is a Singapore-based Malay music ensembleestablished in 2000 andformally registered as asociety in 2002. The ensemblehas an extensive repertoire ofMalay traditional music

ranging from Dondang Sayang

to Inang, Middle Eastern Zapin,

Samrah and Masri, the lively

Joget and Ronggeng and

extended repertoire of Ghazal,

Dangdut and Keronchong,along with contemporaryethnic music.

Comprising of young musicians, we have rendered our services andsupport to projects by various performing arts societies andgovernment agencies. Among our list of clientele includes National ArtsCouncil, Esplanade Co Ltd, MediaCorp Eaglevision, Dua M Pte Ltd,Sriwana, Perkumpulan Seni, Peoples’ Association, Majlis Pusat, NationalHeritage Board, National Library Board and Music & Movement.

Participated in various major Malay dance projects such as Peoples’

Association’s Gentarasa 2002, 2003& 2005; Sriwana’s Malam Tari

Serumpun (2003), SAL5060 Tari Muzika Era 50-60an (2004) & Jubilee

Emas Sriwana (2005), Refleksi (2007); Perkumpulan Seni’s Gema Tari

(2002, 2003), Malam Jaluran Seni Tari (2005), Gejolak (2007), Majlis

Pusat’s Festival Tari Serumpun (2006) and Esplanade’s Pesta Raya(2002-2006) etc.

Sri Mahligai was also involved in Esplanade’s Trial and Orientationprogram as well as its Open House in 2002 and was given the honour

to perform our very own concert Sacred or Otherwise in Pesta Raya2005 at the Recital Studio.

AboutFeatured in various television programmes such as Kopi ‘O’ The Tarik

(1999), Jam! Dondang Sayang, Ikon (2001), Rentra 1 (2004), Rentra 2,

Suria Raya Live (2006), Gemilang (2007) and TAA Sinaran Hati,

Budaya360, Kpak Bing Bing (2008).

Participated in various overseas projects with People’s Association such

as Bintan Arts Festival, Indonesia (2002), Festival Melayu Sedunia,

Indonesia (2003); Pesta Gendang Nusantara, Malaysia (2003, 2009).

Produced two traditional Malay music albums, Jati (2004) & Mutiara(2005). To date, songs from both albums has dominated the SYFCentral Judging For Malay Dance festival, chalking up to 36% (2005),32% (2006), 42% (2007), 43% (2008) and recently, 53% (2009) of alldance music featured in the festival.

Sri Mahligai has also performed to more than 400 weddingperformances, corporate events and community and cultural events.We have programmes to suit any occasions such as educationalprogrammes, wedding dinner & functions, cultural events, dance andtheatre accompaniment and radio and television presentations.

To establish a roadmapfor aspiring fellowmusicians on how toviably and realisticallysustain as an artist incosmopolitan Singapore.

Believe that MalaySingaporean shouldestablish its own identityin arts and music, apartfrom the Malays fromother regions, and at thesame time, should worktogether with a commonbond with mutual respectand understanding.

To create awareness and interest towards fast-declining Malay traditionalmusic, especially to the new generation.

To retain as well as enrich the Malay traditional music vocabulary, includingMalay traditional dance music.
