For the staff of Copenhagen University,

participation in the DHL Corporate Run is an

important event. This is where Copenhagen

University has the opportunity to have the staff

meet regardless of faculties and institutes.Approximately 2200 runners take part in the relay

run and another 3-400 spectators come to cheer

colleagues on and be part of the party afterwards.

The collaboration between Copenhagen University

and Stafettelt A/S works perfectly; Stafettelt

Stafettelt is an experienced event management company

that is responsible for developing, building and selling the

tent village at the DHL Corporate Run Copenhagen. Throughefficient collaboration with the organiser of the run, Sparta

Athletics, we have managed to increase the number of

participants every single year, and today the run is one of the

worlds largest public running events with around 130,000

participants.

The DHL Corporate Run Copenhagen is a

5x5 km running event primarily aimed atattracting participants from companies

around Copenhagen. The first run was

initiated by Sparta Athletics in 1986 and

since it has developed from a few hundred

participants into being one of the worlds

largest running events.

Around 130,000 people run 5 km in the week of the DHL

Corporate Run Copenhagen. The run also makes its mark on

the media with many articles on exercise, participants andtheir experiences appearing in the weeks preceding the event.

The running route makes its way in and around a large park

in central Copenhagen and has its start and a serpentine

finish in a giant tent village where the spectators can follow

their friends running close by. The runners have the unique

experience of running the last 1.5 kilometres round the

tent village while being cheered by friends, colleagues and

thousands of spectators from the marquees. It creates a

special atmosphere that is a key part of the huge success of

the DHL Corporate Run.

From the beginning only a fewcompanies hired in a marquee for theiremployees at the DHL Corporate RunCopenhagen, but from 1991 it becamepossible for all participants to ordercovered seating in a tent. By 1997 half ofthe participants had covered seating andin 2001 it was more that 3 out of 4. Since2008 there has been bought seating formore people than there are participantsin the actual corporate run.

Many companies think of the DHL Corporate Run as one of

the years big social events and will use buses to transport

employees from all over Denmark. Some of the largest haveseveral thousand participants on a single night and the event

is used for team building and developing relationships and

team spirit across skills, age and work area.

The DHL Corporate Run rapidly grew into a large event after

the first event in 1981, and in 2000 it became necessary to

create a working group which solely focused on developing

this event. In 2007 Stafettelt A/S was separated into a

separate company from Rent a Tent Denmark with a focus on

organising large events and especially the DHL Corporate Run

Copenhagen.

Today Stafettelt A/S is an independent company managed by

the same people, who in collaboration with Sparta Athletics

have continued developing the event since 1986. Stafettelt isin charge of the finishing area and tent village, which is filled

with more than 21,000 square meters of tent and enough

tables and benches to accommodate the 130,000 participants

during the week of the event. All bookings for spaces in the

tents and marquees are carried out and managed through

Stafettelts booking systems and webpage, and Stafettelt also

manages all logistics concerning the venue and the building

and service of the tents.

But as an event grows the amount of planning required and

the need for specialised knowledge will also increase. This

can be a challenge for inexperienced or voluntary organisers,
