Biography

Professor LEE Wing-on

BA, PhD

Professor LEE Wing On obtained his Bachelor degree from University of Hong Kong in

1977 and PhD degree from University of Durham in 1988.

Professor LEE has 20 years of senior management experience in the tertiary education

sector. Prior to his appointment at the Open University of Hong Kong, he served as Dean of

Education Research at National Institute of Education, Singapore. He has also previously

served in various capacities at Hong Kong Institute of Education as Vice President

(Academic) & Deputy to President, Acting President and Chair Professor of Comparative

Education, Founding Dean of the School of Foundations in Education, Head of two

Departments and Centre for Citizenship Education.

In 2005, he was invited by University of Sydney to be Professor and Director (International).

Prior to his service in Australia, he had served at University of Hong Kong as Associate

Dean of Education and Founding Director of Comparative Education Research Centre.

Professor LEE has been active in public services. In Hong Kong, He is now serving on the

Education Commission, and has previously served on the Curriculum Development Council,

Quality Education Fund, Hong Kong Council of Academic Accreditation and Vocational

Qualification, the Committee for the Promotion of Civic Education, and the UGC Research

Assessment Exercise in 1999, 2006 and 2014, etc. In Singapore, he has served on the

Physical Education, Art & Music (PAM) Research Committee at the Ministry of Education,

the Conference Ambassador Programme (CAP) at the Singapore Tourism Board, and the

Athlete Life Development (ALD) Advisory Panel at Singapore Sports Institute. He was also

Chairman of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) for the Community Health Board

(DSRB) F2 in Singapore (2011-2014). At Nanyang Technological University, he has served

as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Steering Committee during 2012-2014. In Australia,

Professor LEE was invited as an international speaker at the national forums on values

education and citizenship education organized by the then Curriculum Corporation

respectively in 2003 and 2005, as a keynote speaker at the Asia-Pacific Education Deans

Association Symposium at the University of Sydney in 2007. He was invited to comment on

the latest citizenship education document, published in Australian Curriculum Studies

Association’s Curriculum Perspectives in 2013. His latest contribution was being an

international keynote speaker at the 2014 Australian Council of Educational Leadership

(ACEL) Conference.
