DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS

October 2020

Halloween The New Albany Police Department participated in Trick or Treat on Halloween. Multiple officers along with Chaplain Lowery patrolled New Albany neighborhoods and safely passed candy out to trick or treaters while also promoting safe-ty. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way many participated this year, the department shared safety tips that would allow children to engage in Halloween.

DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS October 2020

Drug Take Back Day

In partnership with the Plain Township Fire Department, the New Albany Police Department participated in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Take Back Initiative on October 24th. This initiative allows citizens the opportunity to turn in unwanted medications for proper destruction. Sergeant Fernander and Officer Kelly operated a site at the Plain Township Fire Department and collected 48.7 pounds of unwanted medications. The unwanted medication will be safely destroyed and will no longer be available for potential abuse or accidental poisoning. The proper destruction will mean that the medication will not make its way into our water supply.

In addition to Drug Take Back Days, the City of New Albany operates a drug drop off box in the lobby of the police department. Citizens can bring their unwanted medications (pills/capsules only) and deposit them in the drop box for destruction.

DUI Enforcement Initiative

The New Albany Police Department participated in the state-wide D.U.I. Enforcement initiative which is led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Officers made several traffic stops for moving and equipment violations. These saturated patrols are focused on impacting the traffic deaths and injuries that often stem from impaired and/or reckless driving during holidays.
