Transcript of Professional Work. Luci Creative
01Luci Creative was asked to assist the Chicago
Architecture Foundation with planning and
designing a new interactive Atrium Lobby exhibit
that would utilize the existing Chicago Model in
a new way. Part of the planning and development
process included Luci Creative facilitating an
interactive workshop with the content advisors
to determine critical attributes and content for
the exhibit. The design parameters for this exhibit
included using the existing truss structure as
a frame work and footprint for the entire exhibit.
Our scope also included the graphic identity and
graphic style guide for all graphic content.
In collaboration with the Chicago Architecture
Foundation and their expert content advisors,
we planned and designed a new strategy for
the Atrium Lobby exhibit and experience.
We designed a raised viewing platform to give
visitors a new perspective of the iconic Chicago
model. With the addition of an interactive reading
digital infrastructure of the city which is projected
onto the model. Using the existing truss structure,
we also framed the model with dynamic data
stations to create content zones and a sense of
definition in the large atrium lobby space. To tie
the exhibition together into a cohesive experience,
we developed and designed the graphic identity
and graphic style for all the interpretive and
environmental graphics within the exhibit.

02In partnership with the MSI team and Ravenswood
Studio, we developed, designed, engineered and
fabricated this one-of-a-kind 7,500 sq. ft. immersive
and interactive permanent exhibition. Visitors are
transported into three galleries that include: an
animated hallway of lenticular images followed by
a large format movie that introduces the exhibition
concepts, an 1,800 sq. ft. mirror maze where visitors
can step inside and explore a pattern, and lastly
a high-tech interactive gallery where visitors
dive deeper into the content and explore the
connections in nature, art and architecture, and
the human body.

03 ILC Office + Lobby
Luci Creative. November 2014.
Luci facilitated a brainstorming and ideation
session with the ILC team to determine the growing
companies needs. We also asked employees to
critique their current working environments so that
we could have a better understanding of what
works and what would need improvement.
This project was taken through the programing,
schematic design, design development phases.
Luci Creative often works with the ILC team on a
variety of museum exhibits and build environments.
The ILC team asked Luci to help facilitate, ideate
and design a new office lobby and second floor office
space for their growing team.
Luci worked closely with the ILC team to create
a lobby experience which would showcase the
companies new brand vision, values and culture.
We created a large conference room, open kitchen,
and monumental staircase in the lobby area creating
a more inviting and relaxing environment for staff,
vendors and clients.

04 The ArcelorMittal Design Studio Luci Creative. November 2013
We designed a very open space with a variety of mobile
semi-custom furniture options that could accommodate
the various programs and their needs. We included a few
nooks for people to work in semi-privacy. We also created
a graphic program to brand the space as a destination
and visually support the studio’s mission. The lab which is
clearly visible from the street has been very successful in
attracting attention to new visitors; satisfying the funding
grant responsible for initiating the original idea of creating
an interactive educational space.
Our mission was to plan, design and build a collaborative
working space that would liberate the creative impulses of
the students. The space was going to be frequently used
with programming for everyone from toddlers to senior
citizens. The space had to be inviting and have a street
presence that would help attract students and fill the classes
offered by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

Welcome! In this creative space, you can:
“Chicago’s first collaborative learning space focused on
architecture, engineering, design, and planning content.”
Chicago Architecture Foundation
Spend time gathering data – through photographs, maps,
and interviews – about the neighborhood, site, and future
building users. Also investigate the natural environment,
including the path of the sun around the site, the direction
of the wind, the climate, and the native plants.
Start by sketching, making diagrams, or building simple
study models to help you understand all the information
you've collected. Next, analyze the different ideas and
consider which ones will work best. Your solution(s) will
evolve over time, and these drawings will help you
document your ideas.
At this stage, create drawings with specific solutions for
your client. Show more than one idea. Schematic drawings,
as these are typically called, illustrate the big ideas and
space requirements of the project.
Based on the feedback you've received, it's time to analyze
your original ideas, review your solutions, and make decisions
on which features will stay, which will be redesigned, and
which may be eliminated. The final product is – hopefully –
the best version of all of the ideas and solutions generated
throughout the design process.
Architects and engineers use a cyclical design process
to formulate solutions to complex problems. At the
Chicago Architecture Foundation, we talk about the
design process in six steps: Dene, Collect,
Brainstorm, Develop, Present, and Improve.
The Design Process: A Case StudyThe Gary Comer Youth Center, 2006
Let's investigate the steps that John Ronan Architects worked
through in designing the Gary Comer Youth Center, located in
the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.
The building was designed as the home for the South Shore Drill
team – a precision performance troop made up of local teens who
march in parades and at events. It also includes many different
after school spaces: a gym, stage, art center, recording studio,
dance studio, classrooms, gardens, library, and a kitchen.
No solution is perfect the first time around. It’s critical that
you share your ideas – sketches, models, drawings –
with trusted colleagues and with your client. Use the
constructive feedback to improve upon your design
and create a better solution.
You can't find a solution until you can spell out the problem.
You'll need to work closely with your client and/or the
building users to answer "The Five Ws" and help define
the problem.
Who is the client? Who is the end audience/user?
What is this building?
When will the project start and be completed?
Why is this building necessary?
Where will the building be located?

05 Innovation Lab Luci Creative. June 2013.
We planned, designed, fabricated and installed flexible
work spaces that could accommodate different groups
with various programming agendas. The furnishings are
designed to be functional and versatile to allow the space to
periodically create different types of learning environments.
This unique destination in the Chicago Public Library has
become a benchmark for many institutions around Chicago
that are now creating their own maker-labs.
Our mission was to design and build an interactive innovation
lab that would engage many different age groups and serve
multiple functions for various programs. The space in the
library had controlled access so that the lab would be open
only when a class was in session. Students would learn how
to program the high tech equipment such as 3D printers and
various laser cutting machinery and then use their skills to
actually make things that they had just designed.

06 Chicago Sports Museum Luci Creative. April 2014.
We created and developed locker displays and other cases
that allow for an easy changing display of artifacts. We
created all of the graphics for the museum including many
large super graphics that span 25’. We also created a nice
balance of analog and digital interactive activities for visitors.
Including a re-creation of the broadcast booth where Harry
Caray used to sing “Take me out to the ball game” as well as
a Vertical Leap interactive where visitors can “measure up”
to Michael Jordan’s famous 48” leap and test their own.
The museum opened to great reviews from the Chicago
press and sports icons.
Luci Creative and Ravenswood Studio planned, designed,
fabricated and installed the entire 8,000 sq. ft. Chicago
Sports Museum. The space was divided into several zones
to accommodate the main themes of the museum such
as: Measure Up, Forensic Sports, Sports Curses, Chicago
Sports Legends, and several others. We had to work within
an existing space and created a flow through these zones
towards a large open space. This open space featured
five gestural interactives (developed by Next/Now) that
allow visitors to experience the Chicago teams of baseball,
football, basketball, and hockey and also allowed for
receptions and events.
