POSTGRADUATE STUDIES IN PAIN MANAGEMENT

ABOUT THE PROGRAMThis program is a postgraduate coursework degree course, with the option to enter or exit at the Graduate Certi!cate, Graduate Diploma or Masters level.

PROGRAM AIMThe aim of the program is to improve patient outcomes by providing postgraduate, clinically relevant education to an international standard.

It aims to educate students in the science, concepts, approaches and procedures relevant to pain management, in the context of a multidisciplinary team.

TARGET AUDIENCEThe program provides advanced education in pain management for graduates in medicine, dentistry, psychology, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other relevant disciplines.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE All participants must complete four core units that comprise the Graduate Certi!cate in Pain Management.

These core units of study introduce the key concepts and principles underlying the mechanisms and management of pain.

Continuing students can choose from a range of elective subjects that provide an opportunity to study areas of interest in more depth.

PROGRAM DELIVERYUnits of Study (core and electives) are taught in distance mode and are completed entirely online. An optional 2 week face to face program, available at the beginning of each year at a reduced cost to enrolled students, provides an overview of the course content.

Study guides with lecture notes are available, either to be read on screen or printed by the students for private use. Quizzes, interactive media, online discussion groups and selected readings from relevant journals and textbooks are also provided.

Units of study are facilitated by a team of local and international academic clinicians and researchers including neuroscientists, anaesthetists, pharmacologists, oral surgeons, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, physiotherapists and research personnel. All are widely experienced in pain management.
