Thinking OUTSIDE the Box: A journey about outdoor
programing
Presenter: PRC & Lab School
Wednesday November 16, 2016
Time: 6:30 PM—8:30 PM
Location: Doon-ECE Building
It began with an invitation to rethink our play-ground, to question what we really wanted, what children really needed and then we did the unthinkable…
But this is a journey, one we are still on. Our shifts in programing didn’t happen overnight, and there were many bumps and learnings that continue to come our way. Join us as we share our story, and relook at outdoor programing and examine the shifting mindsets that brought us to where we are today. Participants will be invited to share their own stories and questions, and explore our learning environments both inside and out at the Child Development Lab School.

Getting STEAMed Up: Exploring everyday Science, Technology,
Engineering, Art and Math
Presenter: PRC
Wednesday November 23, 2016
Time: 6:30 PM—8:30 PM
Location: Doon-ECE Building
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) based programing can often be intimidating with a belief that those “teaching” these skills must be experts, that they require expensive and elaborate materials and resources and that they are only achievable through projects, or teacher planned/led activities. The truth of the matter is that early childhood programs are already a rich source of opportunities for such skills to emerge – through our everyday materials and resources already on hand. With educators as co-learners alongside children, we invite you to relook at our roles, environments and the opportunities we create and support to embrace STEM in the classroom. We will also look at the shift from STEM to STREAM with the recognition of the importance of the arts.

Presenter: PRC
Wednesday November 30, 2016
Time: 6:30 PM—8:30 PM
Location: Doon-ECE Building

Art is often an area of programming that is underutilized for a variety of reasons: lack of funding, knowledge, unique materials and even space to allow for art to expand and unfold beyond markers, crayons and paper. This workshop will offer participants an opportunity to dig deep into the value of art along with practical and inspiring ideas to ingrate into any early learning environment.

Professional Journey Community of Practice (CoP)
Presenter: PRC
Monday December 5, 2016
Time: 6:30 PM—8:30 PM
Location: Doon-ECE Building
The identity and expectations for Early Childhood Educators have shifted with the many changes within our sector. With this change comes a grow-ing accountability and responsibility as a profes-sional in connection to our standards of practice and ethical obligations. This group will look more deeply at these shifts and expectations through opportunities to connect them to our practice us-ing the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) resources (Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, case studies and the Continuous Pro-fessional Learning Portfolio, etc.). This group is best intended for RECEs or students in the sector with a desire to explore their professional identity and roles, as well as work towards meeting the CECE mandate in relationship to their personal portfolio (CPL).
