Facts and quantic theories about the universe and the existence of us has always fascinated me. I've taken my passion of learning and combined it with my passion of illustrating. I enjoy illustrating theories that are not yet to be visually explained. The exploration of what everything means and how it might look in an abstract way attracts me the most. Physics and science are not usually Physics and science are not usually explored visually as theories are almost always uncertain and for-ever will be a mystery for some.

Being part of the Illustration course has made me develop the longing to first learn then illustrate. Having a brief to work on has benefited me in a lot of different ways, one of those ways would be learning the importance of time organising, es-pecially if it’s a theme that I am a bit pecially if it’s a theme that I am a bit unfamiliar with. I’ve learnt that I need to give myself enough time at the end of a project to go through what I’ve done and see how well it

When I first started this course, I’d say my experimentation was quite limited, but the When I first started this course, I’d say my experimentation was quite limited, but the more lectures and talks I attended, the more I learnt about variation. That’s when I started experimenting with all different medias. I was trying out different ways to portray different ideas. The concept of quantic theory and scientific discoveries was a very challenging subject for me but I insisted on finding a way to put myself through that challenge and I did. I found a way and a technique that is suitable for the subject. I was happy and lucky enough to have reached the point where I realised what it is that worked and that it is what I enjoy doing the most and what I can see myself developing in.what I enjoy doing the most and what I can see myself developing in.

After the first After Effects workshop in the second year of my degree, I was hooked. The possibilities of moving image fascinated me. I was never that keen on computer pro-grammes and digital art but that I wasn’t sure of till I tried it out. From then onwards I'v been downloading plugins and different effects to take my practice further. Finding differ-ent ways to animate 3D objects became an obsession and that was and still is only the begining for me. Using one animating programme led me into exploring all the other dif-ferent animating and editing programmes like cinema4d, Adobe Flash and Premiere.

The more I learn about all the different plugins in after effects

and all the 3D design possibilities in cinema and all the 3D design possibilities in cinema 4d, the more I feel I can accomplish. At first, it

took a few days of constant Lynda tutorial watching, which thankfully was provided to me by the University and that all definitely pays off knowing that I can comfortably open up an ani-

mating programme and know the steps of which I need to take to learn. Whenever I watch which I need to take to learn. Whenever I watch

a documentary, I look at the different visuals and can think of ways of recreating them with the digital knowledge I have. All the realistic space visuals is less of a mystery to me and

that is a point that I never could have imagined reaching.

‘The imagination is a powerful tool. An artist can use it to show others the world as he sees it and to bring others into his dream of what the world could be.’ (David R. Becker)

Being from a different culture has a huge impact on my work. Jordan has a very different outlook

on art. It is not as broad and accepted as it is here in the UK. My work will always be reflected on my background even if the theme of what i am working on is something completely differ-ent. My boundaries are not as tied up and com-

plicated.

Seeing how much simple visual varieties can make a difference is something that inspires me to go back and make a change. My last visit to

Jordan was when I started thinking of career op-portunities. I would like to go back and work

there later in the future, mainly for the purpose of spreading around interesting visuals for bill-

boards, adverts and much more things that seem to be very bland and plain there.

The process of creating my Final Major project animation was very much influenced by the process of which I took to create the String theory animation. The subject I chose to illustrate is the big bang theory and it is a subject I’ve always found really interesting but because of how complex and undefined it is I decided to give myself more time thinking of the different ways it could be illustrated in an abstract way. Having learnt a lot about animating for the past units, the stages I took to creating this animation seemed to be more professional and technical. What I lacked in the former project was the time to edit both the small clips of animation and the sound to former project was the time to edit both the small clips of animation and the sound to which it is animated to. With this project I made sure I gave myself half the time given to edit and that was perfect. I didn’t feel rushed and I had enough time to always go back to different clips and fix them. Even with editing I would still go back to animating a few clips just so I don’t forget what I’ve learnt and also to expand my knowledge.

My expectations of managing to do my own independent v-ging session that in-cludes projection mapping wasn’t as successful as I had hoped. But looking into the industry of visuals and motion graphics and watching how different artists approach projection mapping made me realise how much work has to be made in each spe-cialisim. It takes a few specialists in different fields to achieve a good visual/projection show.

I've started getting inspiration from all around. Visiting the science museum, watching films, even going out to different club event nights. Only recently have I been looking into visuals for music, how to make the animation react to sound. The beginning of last year I went to an Amon Tobin show in London, I went pur-posely for the love of his music but what I didnt know was that his whole music

show was visuals related, how music can be shown through visuals.

The V squared team are who made the visuals for Amon Tobins show. The team is made up of, the director Vello Virkhaus, designer and programmer Peter Sistrom and Leviathan chief scientist Matt Daly along with the help of Bryant Place built a

custom application that runs the visuals of the entire Amon Tobin show end to end. The more I read about his show the more it all started to make sense. It takes

a few people with certain passions and knowledge to make something like that possible. The way the team worked together in an organised pattern, each one

sticking to what they do and know worked out perfectly for them.sticking to what they do and know worked out perfectly for them.

1024 Architecture is another big inspiration. 1024 Architecture is a company cre-ated by Pierre Schneider and Francois Wunschel. The companies team focuses on the interaction between body, space, sound and visuals. They made visual installa-tions that are audio reacted. Again, it takes a few people to make a whole audio re-

acted installation possible. One is the director and creator of visuals and the others specialism would be putting it all together into an installation and finding

ways for it to be interacted.

The internet is a powerful tool, it is very effective when it comes to the arts industry. I have come about to learning this in the process of research. Almost everything I’ve learnt about has been through the internet. It be tutorials, different motion graphic artists or finding out about different events.

Having an online presence nowadays is very important especially if all work developed and created is digital.

I've been building up a few blogs and accounts throughout this course. Vimeo and Youtube I've been building up a few blogs and accounts throughout this course. Vimeo and Youtube for videos and blogspot and tumbler for videos and illustrations.

I've been using blogs and accounts as a visual diary for myself and for others who want to see my progress and journey through work.

I found blogs to be very helpful for myself since i keep updating them on a regular basis and that means i can always look back on the dates of which i've created clips or images and compare my progress.

I've recently made a website ( www.rayalkhass.eu ) that contains almost all my best finished I've recently made a website ( www.rayalkhass.eu ) that contains almost all my best finished work from previous units. It does not only show my animations and visuals but also illustra-tions I've done for past units. It functions like an online portfolio but more for myself and my own benifit than anyone.

As for the portfolio I will be giving to clients, I have a variety of different forms of portfolios for different purposes. Depending on what the job offers.

I have made a showreel to show the standard and quality of work I am capable of creating and what they can expect from me to be making for them. The process of making a show-reel has also been documented on my tumbler account and that would for the purpose of presenting the journey of editing videos and music aswel as animating.

When it comes to business cards and portfolios, my aim is to give out some-thing substantial that cannot be considered as junk or be thrown away, so I've made a batch of dvds with my showreel on it that will act out as a business card for some. I have also made business cards that I will carry around every-where to give out to people whom are either in the same industry or just want-ing to see what it is I do. The business cards I got printed recently are not how I expected them to be. They somehow lost their quality and shine through printing, so I will be getting a new batch printed, hopefully in better quality, for the end of year show.

Not that long ago I was put in a position where I was asked what it is I did and weather or not I would be interested in collaborating with animating students. I found it quite difficult explaining what it is I did verbally as it is all visual and graphic. That pinpointed the importance of business cards as they can just be handed out with all the information you want people to know.

Now that my education is almost over, I can see all the different possibilities and opportuni-ties out there for me. I am very pleased with all my achievements and I feel confident enough to go into the world and carry on what I love doing. I know this is only the beginning and im excited to carry on working on visuals and learning more about new computer ani-mating programmes.

Eventhough my plan of making a whole audio/visual projection didn’t work out as much as I had hoped, it is something I will not give up on.

I’ve been meeting up with a couple media production students from AUB to talk about vg-ing and how to go about with adding my effects into shows and the process of which that can take place.

Mid-June I will be doing an installation project that is a collaborative project between Mid-June I will be doing an installation project that is a collaborative project between myself, and two other media production students that will first be shown in 60million post-cards but then be shown in a small independent festival that we are still hoping to hear back from. I will also be including some of my own visuals in L.E.G’s next v-ging session as I am currently collaborating with the leader and founder of the team.

After graduating I am hoping to slowly get myself involved in the industry of motion graph-ics. Straight into networking, I've bought tickets to go to a motion graphic talk/socialising event. http://www.meetup.com/gluglondon/events/114584892/ It would be great to meet people whom are interested or already are in the industry. Give out a few business cards and hopefully get a contact or two.

Before moving back to Jordan and starting out there, I am going to stay here for a year or two as it seems like it is almost definite that I’ve got a few weeks internship with Superhero, a moving image creative agency that works with production companies and engaging cam-paigns for modern media landscape. They work on everything from TV to online videos. I will be assigned small tasks that involve editing and adding effects. Experience with them should help me know what direction I would like to focus on, it being advertising or com-mercial or educational. I will from then onwards hopefully either be part of their agency or start working as a freelancer.

I will most definitely start an online database client diary/calander, and that would be for the purpose of keeping record of any job iv been assigned to do. With all

I will hopefully be moving to Brighton with another graduate of AUB whose specialised in sound, and together we are hoping to do a lot of collaborating projects of sound and image which im hoping will pursue me into learning more about editing to music and sound.

I feel like this course has definitely guided me to the direction I want to carry on with, my work seems to be getting stronger and more meaningful. I can see the potential visual ef-fects holds for me in the future.
