What is ORP?
• ORP stands for Oxidation Reduction Potential.
• ORP is a measurement to oxidize
contaminants. It is the only practical method
we have to electronically monitor sanitizer
effectiveness.
• ORP and pH sensors allow us to electronically
monitor and control sanitizer residual and pH
automatically.

What Affects ORP?
• Pool chemistry:
– Cyanuric acid levels
– pH variations
– Temperature changes
– Total dissolved solids
– Chlorine neutralizer
– Bather loads
– Use of alternative sanitizer

Why Use Automation?
• Help ensure bather safety
• Protect pool equipment from damage
•
Minimize costs associated with chemicals, equipment and liability
• Flatten curve of dispensing chemical (manual
feed vs. automated feed)• Reduce need for human contact with chemical

Benefits of ORP/pH Controllers
• Continually monitors PH and sanitizer activity
• Constantly adjusts feeding of chemicals
proportional to demand
• Eliminates human error
• Maintains chemical levels 24 hours a day
•
Complies with health departmentchemistry standards

Optimize Chemical Usage
• Dispenses chemical only as required, thus
creating significant cost savings
•
Equalizes water chemistry, eliminating PH andsanitizer highs and lows

Operational Mode
• Press and release the mode button until the
“Auto” LED is lit. Note that this is the
operational mode for the controller. The

Operational Mode, cont.
• Notes:
– The ORP is highly dependent on both the pH andthe cyanuric acid levels. Both of these variables
must be kept within acceptable ranges to maintainan acceptable relationship between the ORP andthe ppm of the sanitizer.
– When using the 55400 controller with Rola-Chem
pumps, the pump switch should be in the “on”position — not “timed” or “off.”
