SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS CALL FOR SPECIAL SOLUTIONS
OFFICE Whatever the task – whether folding to postal format or for creative advertising – accurately folded documents make a good impression. Daily correspondence is folded neatly to envelope format and attractive folding enhances the impact of all kinds of mailshots. Even a single fold of just one sheet of paper can be done faster and more accurately by machine than by hand. This means that professional folding machines in the offi ce pay for themselves after only a few hours of use.
STUDIOApart from high performance and operating convenience, the prime consideration in purchasing a professional folding machine is versatility in use. The possibilities of handling advertising documents such as brochures, mailshots and booklets are as wide-ranging as their contents. Therefore it is just as important to be able to change fold type quickly and easily as to be able to set and save custom folds.
SERVICE PROVIDERDifferent paper sizes and qualities pose a major challenge for folding in the service sector. Furthermore, speed and fl exibility are important factors when it comes to folding large runs. The minimum requirements include a capacity of over 10,000 folds per hour, DIN A5 to DIN A3 sizes and folding capability for paper with a weight of up to 240 g/m².

THE MARTIN YALE FOLDING PRINCIPLE
martin yale folding machines are based upon the buckle fold principle. The press folder is comprised of 4 press rollers and a feed table. The fi rst two folding rollers, which are arranged one above the other, advance the incoming paper web into the feed table and up to the table stop, which has been previously set to the desired folding format. The rollers continue to advance the paper into the feed table when the forward edge of the paper web strikes the table stop, resulting in a sagging buckle fold which is captured by the two folding rollers which are rotating in opposite directions, thus producing a break. The same procedure will be repeated in fold table II thence the folded sheet will be transported to the outlay.

LETTER FOLDIn the letter fold the document is folded twice and hence divided into three panels. The outer panels are folded inwards and hence nest inside each other. This fold confi guration owes its name to its use for mailing purposes. However, it is also used in creative advertising, for instance for brochures, menus or invitations.
Z-FOLDSimilarly to the letter fold, the Z-fold is also folded twice and the document is divided into three panels. However, unlike the letter fold, the outer panels are folded in opposite directions to give the distinctive “Z” look. This fold type is used mostly for advertising purposes. Frequent forms of use are brochures, stand-up displays, menus or mailshots.
HALF-FOLDUnlike the other fold types, here there is only one fold along the centre. This fold type is used for a wide variety of purposes, for instance in mailshots, company brochures, stand-up displays, greeting cards or menus.
The fold types most frequently used are pre-set in martin yale folding machines and can be selected at the push of a button or manually by means of self-explanatory symbols, depending on the machine type. Therefore individual fold types or paper sizes are changed in no time.
FAST AND TIDY FOLDING
5
DOUBLE FOLDThe double fold consists of two half folds one after the other. The document is folded in half and then in half again to create four panels. This fold type is suitable particularly for brochures, menus or mailshots.
GATE FOLDIn the gate fold the document is folded twice to create three panels, the two outer panels each being half the size of the centre panel. The two outer panels are folded inward and meet in alignment in the centre. By concealing the centre panel, it is possible to create an element of suspense, e.g. in a mailshot. That is why the gate fold is used in the advertising sector.
SPECIAL Z-FOLD As opposed to the normal Z-fold, the individual panels in this version are not of equal length after folding. One projecting end allows the document to be punched and fi led in a folder. This fold type is often used in the technical fi eld, for instance for archiving plans.
SPECIAL LETTER FOLDIn the special version of the letter fold, the nested panel is signifi cantly narrower than the other two panels. This fold type is suitable for creative mailshots and is used mainly for advertising purposes.
IT’S THE SHAPE THAT COUNTS

martin yale Offi ce folding machines have proved themselves as valued items of offi ce equipment. Daily correspondence is handled with ease, leaving time for the things that are really important. These machines are also suitable for occasional mailshots and offer scope to exercise your creativity. The automatic feed enables convenient and accurate folding. Conveniently handling as many as 500 folds per day, these machines are suitable for almost all offi ces.
SIMPLE HANDLINGFolding as simple as printing – that’s the credo of the martin yale Offi ce line. The four fold types for DIN A4 paper that are most used are pre-set on the fold tables. Selection is made manually and is incredibly simple thanks to the selfexplanatory symbols. Then just load the paper to be folded and press the start button. Once all the paper has been folded, the 7400 model even switches off automatically.
GIVE FREE REIN TO YOUR CREATIVITYIn addition to the symbols, the fold tables also indicate dimensions in mm, meaning you can create your own fold styles or adapt standard folds to the special format whenever you like. This opens up a myriad of possibilities for making unique mailshots or brochures without compromising output.
Apart from the automatic single-sheet feet, up to three sheets can be manually fed and folded at a time.
LOW MAINTENANCEEven though the machines are maintenance-free in principle, regular cleaning of the rollers raises the performance and prolongs the life of a folding machine. The fold tables are fully removable with ease to provide direct access and hence quickly clear any paper jam.
Thanks to the well thought-out and practical design, the machines require a minimum of storage space. All the same, the adjustable stacking tray provides plenty of space and so ensures a smooth workfl ow.

The models in the Studio line are the right choice wherever there is frequent folding of relatively large volumes of paper up to DIN A4 size. The machines are particularly suitable for frequently changing fold jobs. The maxim that applies here is: high effi ciency and versatility. Even though often used in the advertising sector, these machines also deal with the daily outgoing mail. Conveniently handling as many as 2,500 folds a day, these models can cope effortlessly even with large runs.
EXCELLENT EASE OF USEOne thing is essential for keeping up with the rapid pace of everyday life: fl exibility. Whether it be the manual version with the SinglePoint system or the automatic folding machine with straightforward display – the changeover between different fold types takes no time at all. The 5 fold types most commonly used are pre-set in all the models. And, thanks to the selfcentring guides, paper size changes are incredibly simple and fast.
ALWAYS THE RIGHT SETTINGThe demands made of a modern folding machine are as multifaceted as the challenges we face in our everyday lives. There are almost no limits when it comes to fold confi gurations or paper sizes. The dimensions indicated on the fold tables allow you to set your own design in next to no time. The user-friendly ScrewAdjust feature makes up for any paper tolerances. And, paper with special coatings presents no problem because the right contact pressure can be set using the FeedPress feature.
GEARED FOR HIGH PERFORMANCEHandling large volumes requires not only a powerful drive but also a well thought-out technical design. The so-called C-shape - which gives the user access to the machine outfeed - has proved successful in the professional sector. The feed table holds stacks of up to 150 sheets to swiftly handle even larger runs.

Machines in this category are used wherever many different print jobs are handled on a daily basis. Accordingly, the spectrum of paper sizes ranges from DIN A5 – to DIN A3 +, covering all the digital printing formats commonly used. Apart from performance, key assets are fl exibility and accuracy. Hence martin yale folding machines are a logical complement to digital printing in the production of brochures, fl yers or mailshots. They fold to job order specifi cations with a speed and accuracy that are in no way second to the printing operation. This class conveniently handles as many as 10,000 folds a day.
DIGITAL-READYIn digital printing the paper types are just as varied as the formats. Thanks to the folding speed being fl exibly adjustable, the user is in a position to adapt the output to the respective conditions. This feature and the perfect feed system ensure that documents printed on both sides are also conveyed trouble-free.
SET-UP MADE SIMPLEConstantly changing requirements and short deadlines are the order of the day in digital printing. That’s why the martin yale folding machines for service providers provide a host of aids to make the changeover from one job to the next easier. Offering as many as 7 standard fold types, they cover all the popular styles and therefore the selection takes no time at all. Any number of custom fold styles is possible and, depending on model, they can also be saved for future use. The set-up takes no time in a few easy steps.
DELIVERING STRONG PERFORMANCEA smooth folding operation when handling large volumes requires not only a powerful drive but also a well thoughtout technical design. martin yale’s C-shape - which gives the user free access to the machine outfeed and folding tables - has proved successful in the professional sector. Generously dimensioned feed tables hold stacks of up to 500 sheets and therefore provide ample space for large runs.
