FREE! Health & Safety Technical Assistance
New Jersey is preparing for new impending
federal regulations for providers who receive
child care subsidy funds. These impending
regulations will require child care providers to
improve their program beyond basic licensing
health and safety standards.
New Jersey's Division of Family Development
has significant responsibility for ensuring the
health and safety of children in child care
receiving public funds and is also required to
certify that procedures are in effect to ensure
that child care providers caring for children
receiving public funds comply with the applicable
health and safety requirement.
Child & Family Resources is required to provide
targeted technical assistance and/or training
related to health and safety standards. Our
trained staff will be conducting health and safety
assessments to assist you with meeting this new
regulation. IT’S FREE! Contact Tiffany Pozza at

PAS—Widening the Lens
The Program Administration Scale (PAS) is a valid and
reliable instrument designed to measure the leadership
and management practices of early childhood programs.
The PAS instrument measures quality similarly to
ITERS/ECERS. It is appropriate for the full range of
center-based programs. In attending this training you will
be provided the rational for viewing quality from an
administrative perspective. You will learn to use the
assessment to identify strengths and target areas for
improvement. An overview of the content and scoring of
the PAS will be provided as well. Actively participating in
pre- and post-tests as well as practicing scoring a piece of
your own program assist in a better understanding of the
PAS tool. Don’t miss this opportunity to see how the
PAS can improve the quality of your early childhood
program. (.2 CEUs) #FY1640

Declaration Of Independence:
Preparing Children For School
Having school age children is both exciting and
exasperating. Those cute cuddly pre-kindergarteners are
searching for ways to be more independent. “Growing
up” is a process that we support in our programs; but are
we setting them up for school-readiness? Through active
participation, group activities and discussions, we will
plan to enrich the environment and strengthen our
practices for children’s school readiness. By the end of
this event, providers will have the strategies and tools to
prepare children for their first year of kindergarten.

Make It Better: Medication Administration
When a child attends a child care facility, medication can
be administered by child care providers to maintain the
health of the child, prevent illness, or relieve symptoms.
Doing this allows a child who is not acutely ill to attend a
child care program outside of home and supports
working families. To administer medication, child care
providers have to comply with laws, regulations, and best
practice. Through referencing Caring for Our Children
standards, participants will work in small groups to
explain how to respond to various scenarios with a
unified response to: What medication policies must
include, the 3-step process to receive medication in
childcare, and giving medication based upon The 5
Rights. (.2 CEUs) #FY1631

How To Report Child Abuse & Neglect
Recognizing and responding to situations where a child is
being abused/neglected is unfortunately sometimes a
reality. In early care, we can do our part to protect
children by identifying physical and behavioral indicators
of child abuse and neglect and understanding the DCF’s
investigatory process for families and institutions.
Providers will leave with a better understanding of their
role in the success of teaming with families, and
mandatory reporting of abuse/neglect. As an outcome
measurement we will design a brief pre/post
questionnaire to determine participant’s understanding of
the material and how to apply it to their role as early
childhood educators. (.2 CEUs) #FY1632
