BELGRADE, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- A Serbian professor called on his country to attract more

Chinese green field investments in order to gain access to new markets.

Snezanaa Popovcic-Avric, professor at the Faculty of Economics, Finance and Administration,

said on Wednesday that new green field investments from Chinese companies would help Serbia

to place its products to markets where it does not have privileged access.

Serbia is not a member of the World Trade Organization. Popovcic-Avric believed Serbia has

less favourable access to both Chinese and markets of other WTO member countries.

Higher tariff and increased non-tariff restrictions influence the competitiveness of Serbian offer,

according to Popovcic-Avric, who is also an expert in international economy.

An upcoming meeting of heads of governments between China and countries of South East

Europe, slated for Dec. 16 to 17, will help solve these issues, she said.

Popovcic-Avric stressed the importance of attracting green field investments to Serbia, which

will help Serbia to compete at demanding markets through other countries' channels.
