Introduction to WP2

• To reformate the curricula and syllabuses of BSc, MSc, PhD on resilience management topics according to the exchange of knowledge with non academic organisations with the establishment of communication bodies and process integration with organisations involved in the resilience after disaster.

• Develop new curricula and syllabuses that meet the specifications and needs of labour market.

• All university partners to conduct a study on Curricula and Syllabuses for BSc, MSc and PhD programmes on resilience management topics (supply side )

• All non academic partners to do reports highlighting demand side pertaining to resilience management

• What is already available (supply) – based on academic partner reports

• What is actually needed (demand) based on non academic reports

• Compile and produce the final report also including the identification of pilot modules (D.2.1)

D2.4- Organisational models of teaching

• Publishing a manual to help HEI academic and non academic staff to help the process of teaching.

• The manual will contain: • the way to optimising teaching resources, • the educational offer and relationship with non academic

organisations to exchange the knowledge in progress concerning the field.

• practical examples in the structuring and formalisation of these activities from technical and administrative point of view.

• The manual, will be published in the open source platform managed by intelligent systems

• Teaching models to be ready by March 2015

Metaforum, Spain

• In terms of Spanish speaking market, most countries in Central and South America have resilience capacitation programmes. Many of them addressing the post catastrophe psycological aspects of victims and professionals. Few of them in Spain and some linked to the military and diplomatic bodies.

• There exist a Spanish Institute for Resilience managed by a Professor of psychiatry of the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares who is Chief of the Psychiatric Service of the Central Hospital of the Defense.

 • Emergencies Committees of South and Central America met in Costa Rica and asked for a

continuous education and training system, without specification of required skills. They ask for a permanent training programme for committees' members.

• There are some guides for resilience trainers to help them to prepare and teach their training modules.

• There are a number of short courses and training initiatives related with stress management and personal resilience.

• Business resilience is starting to be considered as something to be taken into account, but its offer and demand in terms of disciplines and capacitation is minimal. Only the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia has made and published an initiative to measure business resilience.

SUDGESTAID, Italy

• Italian Masters in International Cooperation, do not incorporate modules in Resilience management.

• The nearest class of competences to resilience addressed in Italian Masters is represented by the "disaster risk reduction”, “disaster management” and by "crisis prevention and recovery".

• SUDGESTAID has proposed a module on resilience for Masters in International Cooperation. The key themes identified are:

• Resilience, humanitarian assistance and development

• EU approach to resilience: learning from food crises

• How to plan for resilience

• Tools and projects for resilience

UNIBO/ SERINAR have proposed three areas for pilot courses

• Socio Economic resilience – Macro approach

• Management and Leadership in the emergency situations –Meso approach

• Techno-structure resilience (Engineering, Architecture and ICT) –Micro approach

VGTU/ GATWEB/ ALAL

BSc degree programmes• There is just one Bachelor study program directly related to resilience management in Vilnius Gediminas

Technical University – Fire Protection (Continual studies).

MSc degree programmes• There is just one Master study program directly related to resilience management in Vilnius Gediminas Technical

University – Safety Engineering (Continual studies), specialization of Fire and Rescue Operation Safety and Management.

• There are several modules related to resilience management in Master study programs, for example, “Technical behaviour of building structures and their fire resistance” module in Master study program of Civil Engineering

Research degree programmes• There are no P.H.D. study programs directly related to resilience management in Vilnius Gediminas Technical

University but there are several modules related to resilience management in some P.H.D. study programs.• The general part modules in P.H.D. studies of Civil Engineering (02T) scientific field program: “Theory of Fire

Process of Building Composites” , “Fire Factors and Parameters” and modules of selected part such as: “Assessment of fire resistance of building structures” , “Assessment of fire resistance of wooden constructions” .

• Modules of selected part in P.H.D. studies of Materials Engineering (08T) scientific field program: “Technology of Refractory Materials” , “Reaction to Fire and Fire Resistance of Building Materials”

UoH, UK

BSc degree programmes• Five institutions are offering eight BSc degree programmes related to disaster resilience and

management. • These courses focuses on disaster resilience and management; emergency planning; geography;

natural and environment hazards; risk and security management; and public safety.

MSc degree programmes• 15 institutions are offering 22 MSc degree programmes related to disaster resilience and

management. • These courses mainly focuses on environmental hazards; disaster resilience, management and

risk reduction; earthquake engineering; emergency planning and response; humanitarian actions and engineering and computing; disaster healthcare; shelter; conflicts; and adaptation and development.

Research degree programmes• 7 institutions are offering research degree programmes related to disaster resilience and

management in the form of PhDs, MPhils and MSc by Research.

• These courses provide the opportunity for researchers to deepen the knowledge and skills in a variety of subject lines in relation to disaster resilience and management.

• More than 80% of municipalities still do not have their Municipal Emergencies Plans.

• There is no evidence of a set of requirements in terms of required capacities and competences by the MEP's. But they require continuous education and training to assure management and organization before, during and after disasters

UDANET

• A survey was conducted on non profit organizations

• Principal orientation is on social and psychological science with specialization on the situation of children, teenagers, local communities, small business and SMART cities.

• The main demands identified were:

• explain and disseminate the resilience approach

• what is the resilience and how existing systems and knowledge could be interconnected and integrated to better the capabilities of local communities to recover the situation before the emergency.
