    CG Automation Limited History

CG Automation (formerly Microsol) was established over 20 years ago

in Dublin, Ireland to develop high-performance control and automation

    solutions for the utility sector.

CG Automation Systems UK Ltd (formerly Microsol UK Ltd) was

established in 2002 as the Groups project delivery arm for all UK

projects and to support wider EMEA market activities.

Our UK customers include key clients such as Scottish Power, CE

Electric, NIE and United Utilities as well as some leading UK engineering

companies. Project delivery has been implemented to ensure that our

customers are supported in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

    Our products

    Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)

XCell, the name given to CG Automations integrated technology suite,

forms a unique patented family of products which is entirely modular in

nature by design. This facilitates the use of the same technology from 11

kV to 400 kV in both centralised and distributed architecture. XCell is

ideally suited for both retrofit projects with its large availability of legacy

protocols and new build with the provision of industry standard protocols

such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101,3,4 and DNP 3. Coupled with the

leading edge CG Automation Workbench package which is a Windows

based configuration and diagnostic tool providing user-friendly system

configuration, via simple copy and paste facilities, as well as

    comprehensive online diagnostic facilities.

    Bay Control Unit (BCU)

SmartBay is a customisable bay control unit which delivers a totally

flexible solution for Substation Automation, Communications are based on

the IEC 61850 standard supporting full Client and Server functionality

including GOOSE messaging, buffered reporting and logging, this via

redundant Ethernet LAN connections for high availability, supporting CAT5

    or fiber optic options.

    Distribution Automation (DA)

CG Automations DA systems utilise a number of identical sub assemblies,

both hardware and software, bringing them together to form solutions for

a variety of switch types and various circuit configurations. CG Automation

provides an integrated solution including intelligent battery backed power,

monitoring and control plus a range of communication options including

    radio, GSM and Paknet.

We have developed a range of Remote Control Actuator Module (RCAM)

units which have been successfully installed on numerous sites for the

retrofit of both ground mount and pole mount switches and are able to

offer proven, NON-INTRUSIVE, solutions to meet the motorisation

requirements for a comprehensive range of switchgear.

    Substation Automation Solutions (SAS)

By coupling the CG Automation BCU and RTU system to Local HMI

facilities, data links to system IEDs, and communication links to remote

EMS or DMS Control Centers we can provide elegant Substation Control

Systems providing full system information, both current and historic,

simultaneously to all of the interested parties. The systems can be simple

stand alone through to redundant, multiple site, multiple master systems

merely by the provision of additional equipment and functionality.

    IEC 61850

To lower costs associated with protection, control and automation and

replace expensive copper wiring between devices with direct transfer of

data using GOOSE messaging, CG Automations extensive library of

system protocols has been extended to include the latest industry

    standard, IEC 61850.

With the advent of Ethernet communications within the XCell range it has

allowed the gathering and transfer of information between disparate

parts of the system using legacy protocols, such as IEC 60870-5-101,3,4

interfaced with the IEC 61850 substation LAN. This allows a seamless

integration or migration strategy to be implemented facilitating

movement to the latest systems in a planned, progressive and cost

    effective manner.

    UK Manufacturing Facility

To further enhance our project and product delivery service to our

customers, a specific CG Automation manufacturing facility was

established in 2004, staffed with engineering and production staff of the

highest calibre with long and wide-ranging experience in the

manufacture, assembly and testing of the various SAS, RTU and DA

    Solutions offered to our clients.

This facility fully complements our project management and engineering

expertise to allow CG Automation to implement a process which allows

design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, inspection,

packing and delivery from order inception.

    Training Facility

We are very conscious of the highly technical nature of the industries in

which we are involved and, consequently, the need to maintain a high level of

engineering expertise within both our own staff and the personnel of clients to

ensure the efficient operation of our products throughout the world.

To this end we offer a wide range of training courses, structured in

accordance to requirements and needs of client personnel, and which can be

implemented at either our clients facilities or within our own specific learning

centre at our CG Automation offices.

    Site Engineering Services

At CG Automation we offer further services such as configuration, site

installation (by either CG Automation or suitably qualified and vetted

electrical sub-contractors), site acceptance testing and commissioning

    depending on customer requirements.

We are able to offer Turn Key solutions to customer project requirements

beyond standard manufacture and delivery of RTUs, with experience of

installing and commissioning numerous systems throughout the UK while

working under CDM regulations, on occasions acting as Principle Contractor,

in environments such as nuclear generation plants.

    After Sales & Warranty Support

With regard to after sales service and warranty support our engineering

and support staff is available to assist customer queries and enquiries via

a web based helpline or telephone contact. Our best endeavors are

assured at all times to enable the minimum of inconvenience to clients.

We offer a range of service level agreements to meet customer

requirements to ensure quick response and timely rectification of notified

    equipment faults.

Warranty support is, under normal circumstances, covered on a return to

factory basis with repairs carried out or replacement products supplied

    within a targeted assessment period.
