La Meccanica has been operating in the animal feed, fertilizer, bio-energy and recycling sectors for more than fifty-five years. Precision and quality in our work, are two characteristics that have always distinguished the company, both then and now. La Meccanica started producing spare parts and dies for the animal feed industry in 1961.

Currently La Meccanica employs approximately 70 people (50 in production) and the factory has a surface area of around 10,000 m2.

Design and production are performed in-house, ensuring direct, real-time control over quality.

Our company works mainly in the following sectors: • feed production • mills• biomass • recycling • dehydrators • sugar factories• oil production plants • plants working organic and organic-mineral fertilizers

Experience and seriousness in the production of dies, rolls and shells guarantee customer satisfaction. La Meccanica manufactures more than 2500 dies a year for all main brands of pellet mills or according to hole patterns of customer specification. It supplies rollers shells and spareparts as well.

Our fully automated, fully equipped production plants use avant-garde technologies and produce dies which are exported worldwide.

Over the years La Meccanica has become specialized in the construction of pellet mills.Besides this production La Meccanica designs and manufactures machinery and plant projects. Over the years La Meccanica has become specialized in the construction of pellet mills.

At presentmore than 1500 La Meccanica pellet mills have been installed and the company has an excellent standing all over the world. Today 14 different models of pellet mills are manufactured, with power ranging from 7.5 kW to 355 kW.

Screw feeder:• The variable-pitch feeder is driven by a frequency converter.• The whole body of the screw feeder in contact with the feed and the screw feeder shaft are made in stainless steel.

Conditioner:• The conditioner is driven by its own motor.• The conditioner is entirely stainless steel made included shafts and paddles. To obtein the best results from the addition

of steam, the paddles of the conditioner shaft are easily adjustable.

Pellet mill bloc:• Door: the machine door is entirely stainless steel-made with two knife assemblies.• Magnet: a permanent magnet is fitted in the chute to avoid ferrous metal entering the die.• Overload flap: on the feed conveyor there is a overload flap.• Die holder: die holder is made in forging steel and it has a wear ring. Die holder front base is stainless steel lined to

guarantee longer life.• Basament: the pellet mill is built up on an heavy cast iron base that guarantee the absence from vibration.• Main shaft: the front of the shaft is chromed plate for prevent against corrosion.• Drive: the pellet mill is driven by an electric motor via a V-belt transmission. Belts type 5V guarantee the transmission of

the motor power with a security factor equal than 1.7.• Shear pin: to protect the pelleting chamber, a shear pin is installed on the rear of the machine.• Lubrication: greasing can be made by the rear of the pellet mill, through the main shaft. In this way the machine can be

lubricated without stop the motor.

Technical features

Conditioning is the result of the 3 variable: moisture, temperature and time. As moisture and temperature are related, time is the ultimate variable when optimising nutritional quality of the feed as well as improving pellet quality.The Sanitizer, installed upstream of a press, can increase the production up to 15% and significantly improves the durability of pellets PDI (Pellet Durability Index).

Moreover the Sanitizer provides: • Elimination of Salmonella • Gelatinization of starch • Sanitation

Expander is a machine similar to an extruder, combining temperature (115°C) and pressure (20 bar) to treat and condition raw materials to provide a crumb with improved nutritional value to that of conventional feeds.

Expander is supplied with:- drive/power transmission- charging hopper- screw for compression and homogenizing- independent head section with fully adjustable flat die arrangement- multiblade, variable speed knife arrangement cuts the material into uniform crumbs.

• Main drive has a hydraulic coupling, with built in torque overload and v-belt drive transfer.• The heavy duty compression screw is constructed out of several sections on a single shaft, increasing shear action.• The die assembly can be hydraulically turned/disconnected from the machine for easy access.• The die aperture is hydraulically controlled allowing operator to increase/reduce compression/shear action and the

extrusion/molding of final product remotely.• Variable speed knife arrangement, with independent drive, to determine crumb size and ensures uniform product size.• Through the length of the expander we can add steam under high pressure. It’s possible due to many special injectors.• Numerous injection points allow high-pressure steam, and additional liquids, to be added along the length of the

expander.• Automatic control - allows operator to preset parameters and system can fine tune accordingly.• Flexibility due to the number of inlet points and short build up time allows system to stop/start without problems.

General descriptionMV series mills are used for the fine or ultra fine grinding of a large number of materials with low to moderate hardness and abrasivity, such as for example: corn, oats, barley, soya etc.These mills are fitted with a vertical shaft rotor rotating at high speed to which hammers are fastened rigidly. Material is ground by impact and rubbing against a screen.

Technical features

The advantages of using the vertical mill are:• Reduced electricity consumption: when compared to horizontal hammer mills with the same capacity, energy

consumption is on average 25% lower.• Limited air flow: it is not necessary to have a specific suction line for the mill in the grinding chamber. This results in

significant energy savings and limited product moisture loss during the grinding stage.• Screens and hammers, parts subject to wear, are hooked to make their replacement really easy.• The grinding chamber is easy to clean and inspect.• The mill is fitted with a dispenser with stone and metal removal system.• The impeller features high mechanical reliability thanks to two supports with independent bearings.• The motor and impeller are connected with a flexible coupling.• High safety standards: bearing temperature is monitored by PT 100 sensors and a vibration detection system may be installed (optional).• Quieter than the horizontal mill.• Construction in compliance with ATEX 22 standards.

To supply the correct die we must know the type of pellet mill and size of the die being used. We can produce dies with hole patterns to customer specification or manufacture dies to our own hole pattern designs based on our long experience.
