1 Development of bricks from waste materials :A review paper

Alla A ShakirSivakumar NaganathamKamal Nasharudhin

2013 Textile laundry waste water sludge,Recycled Harbour sediments,Baggase sludge, brewing industry waste, copper mine waste

Waste materials in bricks shows positive results in physical, mechanical properties and thermal insulation

Unfired bricks-brick neither consumes energy resources nor emits pollutant gases gives an economical option to design the green building

2 Utilization of kraft pulp production residues in clay brick production

Ismail Demir Serhat BaspinarMehmet Orhan

2004 Increasing amount of residue (2.5%,5%,10%)was mixed with raw clay bricks

Kraft pulp residue utilised as a pore forming agent, decreasing the bulk density

Fibrous residue don't create any problem in shaping at used addition levels, no intrusion failure observed

3 Development of sustainable construction material using industrial and agricultural solid waste: A review of waste-create bricks

S P Raut et al 2011Paper processed residues, Cigarette butts,Flyash-Lime-Gypsum ,cotton waste, Lime stone powder waste, organic residuePetroleum plant sludge

Compressive strength obtained 12 times greater than minimum in IS 1077-1992

4 Utilisation of waste as a constituent ingredient for enhancing thermal performance of bricks-A review paper

Ashwin Narendra Rout,Christy Pathrose Gomez

2016 Review of researches conducted on thermal properties of bricks from various waste

Thermal properties is highly varied by the micro-structure of the waste materials added

The RPMW-cement showed lower thermal value of 0.3 watts /meter Kelvin

5 Reuse of recycle paper mill waste in energy absorbing light weight bricks

S P Raut et al 2011 Making of RPMW-cement bricks in varied proportions

RPMW bricks exhibit a compressive strength of 9 Mpa, while conventional clay brick has 3 Mpa

6 An experimental study on use of recycle paper mill waste in light weight bricks

Maneesh Kumar Ashik MoulanaVenkateshan M

2015 Investigation of use of recycle paper mill in RPMW-Flyash-Cement brick

Compressive strength obtained 8 Mpa

Fibrous nature gives high energy absorbing ability and compressive strength

7 Reuse of cotton and recycle paper mill waste as building materials

D RajputS P Raut et al

2012 Wastecrete brick with varying content of cotton waste(CW) and RPMW

Burnt clay brick -3.10MPaFly ash bricks -3.12MPaRPMW-CW-Cement-22.27MPa

Weight of RPMW brick is half of conventional clay bricks

8 Utilisation of recycle paper mill residue and rice husk ash in production of light weight bricks

S RautR RalegaonkarS Mandavgane

2013 Rick husk ash (10-20%)RPMW (70-80%)

High compressive strength of 11-15MPa(5 times greater than burnt clay)

Weight less than 50% of conventional bricks

9 The use of recycled paper mill processing residues in making pores brick with reduced thermal conductivity

Mucahit Sutcu,Sedat Akkurt

2009 RPMW was added up to 30% with clay

Compressive strength = 20MPa

RPMW bricks can be used as insulation bricks having reduced thermal conductivity

10 Stabilised unfired clay bricks for environmental and sustainable use

J.E. Oti , J.M. Kinuthia

2012 An environmental analysis of brick production processes indicated that firing is very energy intensive.

Emissions from clay brick production are attributed to the energy used for firing kilns.

Conclusion

• RPMW-Cement bricks sustainable substitute for conventional bricks

• Various performance test in IS code 1077-1992• Fibrous nature of RPMW contribute to better

thermal insulation, shock absorption, low weight, low energy

• Compressive strength is proportional to the fibrous material in brick

• The compressive strength of the RPMW brick is greater than the conventional clay brick
