WEEK 1-3

DURING THIS WEEKS WE WERE GOING TRUE THE STORY, DISCUSSING DIFFERENT IDEAS AND HOW TO APPROACH AND PRESENT THEM, AS WELL AS WRITING THE SCRIPT. EVERYONE IN THE GROUP WARE REALLY EXCITED AND HAD DIFFERENT IDEAS ABOUT HOW THE STORY SHOULD DEVELOP. BY DISCUSSING THEM TOGETHER, WE AGREED ON SOME AND REJECTED OTHERS.

AS AT THE BEGINNING, THE WAY I IMAGINED IT GOING WAS MORE ABSTRACT, BEX,REECE AND LIU SUGGESTED GIVING MORE OF AN INTRODUCTION TO THE CHARACTERS SO THAT THE AUDIENCE FOLLOWS THE STORY MORE EASY, AND HAVE BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHY THE STORY DEVELOPS THE WAY IT DOES AT THE END. EACH ONE OF US THEN WROTE A BREAKDOWN OF THE NARRATIVE TO PRESENT HOW THEY SEE THE STORY BY ADDING SOMETHING THAT THINK IT WILL WORK WELL. SO IN A WAY ALL OF US ACTED AS DIRECTORS AS WE MADE SURE THE VISION OF EACH INDIVIDUAL IN CERTAIN PARTS TRUE THE ANIMATION IS INCLUDED. ME AND REECE THEN WROTE THE SCRIPT BY THE FORMAT, REECE WROTE THE SYNOPSIS AND LIU AND BEX WHEN OUT TO TAKE PICTURES AROUND PORTSMOUTH WHICH WE CAN USE LATER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT DEVELOPMENT.

CHARACTER DESIGNS RESEARCH WEEK 4-5

During this period we worked on the character designsfor the monster and the creature. We all did some research. Below are the designs and research I made for the characters. We decided to go with my design for the boy, and for the creature we took my

initial design and the designs Becky made, and I combined them.

During week 8-9 I was working on some concept art, along side still fixing

some bits on the animatic. So we know what colours to use.

3d part

As at first, my idea was to do the whole film stop-motion, but over week 3-4 we decided to go with 3d, in order to be quicker, as we would have got the time to finish it. Not sure if it was quicker as we came across a lot of problem with the rig. And I personally feel quit slow animating on maya, I guess it is lack of practice.

Becky found Morpheus rig, which is a really good rig but quite advanced. There problem with it was the thong, for some reason it wasn’t working normally on Maya 2016, so we spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to fix it. I read some blogs and found a way to turn his thong back in place, as well as morphing it to look as our design and model his clothing and wrapping it to the mesh.

Over the Chrismas break we ware working on getting the pre- vis done.

I also did some building models looking at my previous concept art , as well as model the backpack of the boy.

For the textures, Liuhad found some on thee internet and I painted on top of them.

Over the last week we ware refining the the animation rendering. I had a problem with the rendering, the textures on the boy’s face seemed to disappear half way true the render. So it was a small hell, so at the end I just playblasted it , for which I am sorry.

Overall

Overall, I think we learned quite a lot from each other over the time we

worked together. It could have been better, but we worked quite hard.

I do understand now how important team work is, how hard and fun at the

same time is.
