Production designer Research: Kristi Zea

Biography

Kristi Zea (born on October 24 1948) is an acclaimed production designer, costume designer and also producer. She first studied Middelbury College in Vermont. After this she studied English Literature at Columbia. She initially appeared within the film industry as a costume designer for Alan Parker. After a few movies as a costume designer she appeared as an art director for Parkers. She has since worked as a production designer for such fims as ‘Goodfellas 1990’, ‘Silence of the Lambs 1991’ and ‘The Departed’. She has been nominated for several awards such as The Oscars, The BAFTAS and the Golden Satilite Award, which she has also won.

Initial Thoughts

From looking at Zea’s work it is clear that she is very versatile in her work from the way in which she has worked as so many different roles within the film indursrty. That being said a lot of the films she has worked on as a production designer have had similar features and she has worked with Martin Scorsese on a number of occasions. I personally enjoy her work on Goodfellas and feel as if she managed to portray Scorsese’s ideas very clearly.
