VSNLIVECOM is a playout studio system based on the engine of VSNMULTICOM, VSN’s continuity automaton solution with more than 20 years of experience and hundreds of clients around the world. It controls up to 16 videoserver channels (4 in rundown A/B/C/D, 4 auxiliary channels and its redundancies). It is compatible with the MOS protocol and it integrates with VSN’s journalist tool, VSNNEWS, as well as with third-party news systems, such as Ross Inception, iNews or ENPS, among others, so that its integration with already existing systems is quick and perfect, consolidating a solid and robust playout process.

A new User Interface allows to operate the system by using multiple screens, as well as to totally customize it to meet the demands of its users, maximizing their experience and helping improve productivity.

VSNLIVECOM’s main rundown allows to control up to 4 channels with its corresponding redundancies (8CH in total). Also, there are 4 more multipurpose lists for auxiliary channels that can be used to launch studio resources, make previews, etc.

VSNLIVECOM supports different NRCS through MOS protocol. In combination with VSNNEWS it allows journalists to collaboratively edit the same or different rundowns and therefore different studios.

The list of devices and video servers that VSNLIVECOM controlls is set by VSNDEVICESERVER and it is inherited from VSNMULTICOM family, allowing for the support of a very wide range of products. Some of the VDCP servers supported are: Grass Valley K2, Harris Nexio, Harmonic Omneon, Seachange, EVS, etc.

2 VSNLIVECOM’s features

� Management from 1 to 4 independent channels: It can be configured with up to 4 simultaneous channels (ABCD) for the execution of rundowns plus its corresponding redundancies (A’B’C’D’) to make for a total of 8 channels.

� Chaining / Manual Event Management: The events assigned to the same channel can be optionally chained.

� Back to back optional: It is possible to automatically (or not) make CUE of the next clip of a channel.

� Skipping of events in the rundown: It is possible to skip any event of the rundown from the very same playout client.

� Video channel assignment to events: It is possible to reassign an event of the rundown to any channel during the broadcast:

� New buttons:

— Play/Pause clip button.

— Cue Preview Button: It can reproduce the last X seconds of any given clip.

— Events Trimming: Mark in and out in a event with the TCin and TCout buttons.

� Disconnected mode. It can disconnect a MOS rundown so the operator can work on it (move, add, cancel events).

� Creating a new disconnected rundown. VSNLIVECOM‘s operator can eventually create and manage rundowns disconnected from MOS.

� Frame accuracy with the mouse cursor

— Cursor. Fast forward or rewind 1 one frame.

3 VSNLIVECOM’s advantages

The system has been designed searching for maximum simplicity, reliability, flexibility and high availability. Its revolutionary client-server architecture allows for different clients to connect to the same studio playout engine. These clients can control different channels and have different graphical interface configurations.

VSN´s studio playout manages multiple rundowns simultaneously, controlling up to 4 channels (A/B/C/D) in list mode and allowing manual event management which can be chained in a different order to the original playlist, enter loop mode, etc.

VSNLIVECOM handles up to 8 auxiliary videoserver channels. These channels can be used for playing out different content to those in the rundown, for example for studio video walls. The studio playout software includes trim, loop, slow motion and other functionalities to further increase the potential of these auxiliary playlists.

The studio playout software allows for the configuration of the system to change without affecting the operation. Devices can be stopped without having to interrupt playout. It’s possible to customize the operation views, for each studio and user and keep the settings for future sessions.

All the playout system logic is located at the Engine application, the central core of the system. VSNLIVECOM, the interface of the Automation Server, represents the client in a client-server architecture, something that allows the system to configure “N” remote studio rooms. This allows for multiple combinations to perfectly adapt to the chosen workflow. For example, it is possible to have in the team a main rundown operator and 2 different operators for the auxiliary channels.

� Playout engine status visualization at all times: When launching the application, it will automatically recover the engine status and perfectly represent it so that at any time a new client can connect to the automation server to interact with it.

� Multiple clients (NRCS) at the same time: Different workstations can connect at the same time without representing any additional work for the system, collaborating on content from the same rundown or from others.

The new architecture allows the interaction of different modules through the ESB (Enterprise Service Bus):

� Clients: Availability of different clients connected to the same Rundown List Engine service. Clients monitor and/or control a rundown. Also, multiple NRCS clients can connect and, therefore, operate on the same rundown, simultaneously.

� Device Server Service: Main server for equip controlling. It receives the orders from the Rundown List Engine service and execute them, returning answers and status from different equipment.

� Rundown List Engine Service: Main server and rundown executing engine. It allows for executing several rundowns simultaneously, each one with its own customized configuration of teams and devices.

� ESB service: Main messaging manager that allows for the interaction of different modules.

� WS services: WS modules to integrate with third-parties and own systems. For example, it allows for retrieving rundowns from a News system like VSNNEWS or from third-party technology through MOS protocol (Octopus, Inception, ENPS, etc.).

� LTC Server: Server that reads the LTC signal and notifies it to the rest of services through ESB.
