• Two IGBTs switch at line frequency: 50/60Hz – A low VCE(on) (slower speed grade) IGBT is ideal

• Two IGBTs switch at high frequency: tens of kHz – A low switching loss (medium to high speed grade) IGBT is ideal

• The low VCE(on) IGBT needs a fast recovery anti-parallel diode to minimize loss in the high frequency switched IGBTs

– Need a fast diode packaged with a slower speed grade IGBT

• Leakage currents must match so phase leg center point voltages are properly balanced – May require ballast resistors or some other way to ensure voltage balance
