Energistics is a global, not-for-profit, membership
consortium that serves as the facilitator, custodian and
advocate for the development and adoption of
technical open data exchange standards in the
upstream oil and gas industry.

PRODUCTION STANDARDS
PRODML Volume Reporting
2001 WITSML starts
2005-6 Norway NPD and Energistics current “Product Volume” + Network + Well Test (based on earlier Mobil, etc.)
2006-7 PRODML starts, adopts earlier work, does pilots
By ~ 2011, daily reporting standard NCS, ~2014 monthly
In-house use in some other companies
Feedback from most: Product Volume “too complex”
2012 start NDR Project to engage regulators & simplify
2014 North America Partner Reporting project
Simplified Volume Reporting Schema Concepts

PRODML NDR* Group
* National Data Repository
Background
Regulatory SIG had identified production reporting as an area of interest at “NDR 10”
Jan 2011 kick off meeting in London, attended by 6 countries – agreed objectives
– Why collect data, what is benefit of a standard?
– What is common data set to focus on?
Demo shown at “NDR 11” Oct 2012, specs reviewed 12 countries
Objectives
Simplify current PRODML
Support majority Regulatory Production Reporting needs
Exploit new V2 Style and architecture from Energistics
Alternative Approaches Examined
1. Schema which reproduced the document reviewed at NDR11
Easy to map onto document
Inflexible – in reality, regulators do not have such common requirements as was assumed
2. Profile (cut-down) of current PRODML product volume schema
Already used in Norway; known to companies
Proved complex and not simple to understand even when pruned back to minimum.
3. Whole new schema but using current concepts where possible
Give enough flexibility but keep it as simple as possible
Takes longer to develop, not compatible with current

Concept
2 types of object comprise the report:
1. Shared Asset Model comprising:
A. Facilities – list of Facility objects describing the components making up the reported operation
B. Hierarchies – representation of Facilities as arranged in roll-up structure for reporting.
2. Production Reports – the production data, reported per Facility as required, e.g.:
A. Production
B. Well Status
C. Well Tests…..
PRODML: North American Production ReportingOVERVIEW OF OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
PRODML NOJV ProjectCall for Participation/Kick-off
June 6 2014
Terry Kite & Kemal Farid
Merrick
Project Objective
Analyze and extend (if needed) PRODML schemas necessary for the reporting of production related data to non-operating joint venture (NOJV) partners, and royalty owners in North America.
Standards established and lessons learned by the NCS Production Reporting and work in progress by the National Data Repository workgroup will be leveraged.
Regulatory reporting in North America will not be in this project’s scope.
Business Case
Some of the challenges of reporting production data to other relevant entities in North America are:
Lack of a standard (protocol, format and mechanism)
Associated requirement for a significant amount of manual effort both in creating data to be transmitted, and receiving/consuming it
NOJV partners are increasingly requesting more detailed data (daily and monthly), resulting in a significantly increased quantity of data to be transmitted
Timelier reporting needed to support decision making (e.g., marketing, participation in projects) and internal reporting (accruals, etc.)
Uses Cases
Receive monthly & daily production data directly from operating partner
Transmit monthly & daily production data directly to a participating JV partner.
Collecting production data from acquisitions.
Reporting production data to divestitures.
Transmit monthly and daily production data on multiple wells to a central data exchange. The transmission should optionally include a list of participating entities by well so that the exchange can limit access to the production data as appropriate
Summary of Volume Reporting
PRODML Volume Reporting - Current Status
Both these volume projects using same Simplified Production Reporting schema
Data Model work under way
Testing/PoC will be done
PRODML migrating to “V2” Common Technical Architecture
Release first capabilities Q2 2015
In Summary
Not-for-profit umbrella body, handles anti-trust etc.
Free to use data standards
Regulatory and N American partner projects underway
Good potential for adoption elsewhere
