1 Area of applicability

These safety instructions apply to the process pressure transmitters IPT-10/11-A-***-**-******C/X-**,

IPT-10/11-R-***-**-******C-**, IPT-10/11-4-***-**-******C/X-**, IPT-10/11-5-***-**-******C/X-** accord-ing to EG type approval certificate PTB 06 ATEX 2017 X with the 1. supplement (certificate numberon the type label and for all instruments with the number of the safety instruction (38985) on the typelabel).

2 General information

The process pressure transmitters IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are also used for pressuremeasurement in hazardous areas.

The measured products can also be combustible liquids, gases, mist or vapour.

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** consist of an electronics housing with integrated electronicsmodule, a process fitting element and a sensor, the pressure measuring cell with optionallyconnected isolated diaphragm. As an option the indicating and adjustment module can also beintegrated.

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres of allcombustible materials of explosion group IIA, IIB and IIC for applications requiring instruments ofcategory 1G, category 1/2G or category 2G.

If the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are installed and operated in hazardous areas, the generalEx installation regulations EN 60079-14 as well as these safety instructions must be observed.

The operating instructions as well as the applicable, valid Ex mounting regulations and standards forelectrical equipment must be observed.

The installation of explosion-endangered systems must always be carried out by qualified personnel.

2.1 Category 1G instruments

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments ofcategory 1G.

2.2 Category 1/2G instruments

The process connection element is installed in the separating wall, which separates areas in whichinstruments of category 2G or 1G are required. The electronics housing is installed in hazardousareas requiring instruments of category 2. The sensor is installed in hazardous areas requiringinstruments of category 1G.

2.3 Category 2G instruments

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments ofcategory 2G.

2.8 µF are not exceeded. The indicating and adjust-ment module integrated in IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-

The intrinsically safe circuits are electrically separated from parts which can be grounded.

The metallic parts of the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are electrically connected with theearth terminals.

For applications requiring instruments of category 2G, the intrinsically safe power supply and signalcircuit can correspond to protection class ia or ib. For connection to a circuit with protection class ib,the ignition protection type identification is Ex ib IIC T6.

For applications requiring instruments of category 1G or 1/2G, the intrinsically safe power supply andsignal circuit must correspond to protection class ia.

For applications requiring instruments of category 1G or 1/2G the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-

** is preferably connected to appropriate equipment with galvanically isolated, intrinsically safecircuits.

4 Application conditions

If the IPT-10/11-A/R-***-**-******C/X-** areoperated at temperatures higher than those specified in the above table, please make sure bymeans of appropriate measures, under consideration of the 7 K self heating of the sensor, thatthere is no danger of ignition from such hot surfaces. The max. permissible temperature on theelectronics/housing should not exceed the values stated in the above table. The applicationconditions in areas without hazardous mixtures are specified in the manufacturer information.

5 Protection against static electricity

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** in the version with chargeable plastic parts, such as e.g.metal housing with inspection window, are provided with a caution label referring to the safetymeasures that must be taken in case electrostatic charging occurs during operation.

6 Use of an overvoltage arrester

On request the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** can be provided with an overvoltage arrester.

If the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** are used as category 1/2G instruments, overvoltageprotection measures according to EN 60079-14 Chapter 12.3 are not required.

When used as category 1G instrument, a suitable overvoltage arrester must be connected inbetween as protection against overvoltages according to EN 60079-14 chapter 12.3.

7 Grounding

In order to avoid the danger of electrostatic charging of the metallic parts, the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-

**-******C/X-** must be electrostatically connected to the local potential equalisation (transferresistance ≤ 1 MΩ), e.g. via the ground terminal, when used as category 1G or 1/2G instruments.

8 Impact and friction sparks

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** in aluminium version must be mounted in such a way thatsparks from impact and friction between aluminium and steel (except stainless steel, if the presenceof rust particles can be excluded) cannot occur.

In applications as category 1G or 1/2G instrument, the process pressure transmitters in the titaniumversions must be mounted in such a way that sparks from impact and friction between titanium andany other hard material cannot occur.

9 Material resistance

For applications requiring instruments of category 1G or 1/2G the IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-

** must only be used in products against which the wetted materials are sufficiently resistant.

10 Mounting with external indicating unit

The intrinsically safe signal circuit between IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** and the externalindicating unit should be set up without grounding. The required insulation voltage is > 500 V AC.

When using the provided connection cable, this requirement is fulfilled. If grounding of the cablescreen is required, it must be carried out according to EN 60079-14 paragr. 12.2.2.3.

11 Installation/mounting

The IPT-10/11-A/R/4/5-***-**-******C/X-** have to be mounted in such a way that the sensor unit isadequately protected from touching the vessel wall, taking vessel installations and flow conditionsinto account. This applies especially to sensor lengths over 3 m.
