PROCEDURE

1. The water bath was flled with fltered water to approximately

20mm rom the top.

2. The main power on the control panel was switched on.

3. The heater was switched on. The water temperature was

observed till it heats up to 50oC and remains constant.

. The capillary tube was cleaned up and partially flled with

acetone to a depth o approximately 0mm. The top nut was

removed rom metal fttin!.

5. Capillary tube was inserted careully throu!h the rubber rin!

inside the metal nut until the top o the tube rests on the top

o the nut.

". #ently the assembly is screwed onto the top plate$ with the %T&

piece normal to the microscope. The 'exible air tube was

connected to one end o the %T& piece. The ob(ect lens is

ad(usted to within 20)30 mm rom the tan*.

+. The vertical hei!ht o the telescope was ad(usted until the

capillary tube is visible. ,hen the meniscus has been

determined$ the vernier scale should be ali!ned with a

suitable !raduation on the fxed scale.

-. Then$ the air pump was switched on.

. The level inside the capillary tube was recorded.

10. The data was collected every 20 minutes or several

times and were recorded.
