Design Brief :

(solution)

Design Specification: must have might have

(limitations)

We will build a shelter to sleep in

To build a structure to .....

based on the design cycle R, D; P; C, E.

•Give the problem

Problem, Design Brief / the solution, Design Specification / the limitations

• Brainstorm and make a mind map with what they need to know (skills, research, learn) in order to complete the task.

• When research finished, design structure and plan it

• Create it

• Evaluate it - Make 5/6 slides to see how they have addressed the skills and reseach have influenced their structure

• 4 to a group. Teach research/skills to all the group or have different workshops and 1 person from each group attends it and reports back and teaches their own group.

Art in nature (In what way can architectural design be influenced by nature)

By looking at existing buildings find the relationship between them and nature. Eg what in examples nature did they come from and how have they changed.

Go out and collect some invertebrates (pitfall traps), identify them, learn their basic body parts and try to design a structure from it.

Look at structures and materials in the wood.

Then come back to design and assess for feasibility

In groups discuss the possible stimulus for the design of this building.

Social studies

• Position and defence

Using pictures of castles, outline the defence method, giving advantages and disadvantages

Go out into the woods and look for 3 different places with different defences to build your structure. Give evidence to support this.

(elevation, terrain, vegetation)

• Communication

Assess route in

How to transport equipment

• Mapping

Scale, route, key

Advisor• respect means? – to environment,

to members of your group – listeners, leaders etc

team roles - what are you mostly?

• team building exercises

• communication - morse, semaphore, torch

• carvings - totempole for structure

Thoughts …..

LangA – alphabet of nouns, adjectives etc and use to make a fairytale

Food – look at outdoor cooking and what we can find to eat

Sleeping overnight

leaf collection, tree identification based on density
