PBL : Anne’s Case
Unclear Terms and Concepts
• Teacher’s bashing action to Anna• Feelings of humiliation and loss of self-
confidence
The Problem
• The teacher’s action towards Anna is a manifestation of child abuse.
Learning Goals
1. If corporal punishment is allowed ten years ago?2. To what extent can the teacher affect the life of the
child? (In relation with the case presented)3. What actions should the parents do after the
incident?4. How did the incident affected the students attitude
towards school?5. Is the action of the teacher corporal punishment or
child abuse?6. Can the student still sue the teacher?
Evaluation• Corporal punishment was prohibited since 1992. • The teacher affected both the physical and emotional aspect of the
student. And the student’s attitude towards school changed. • The parents action toward their children should have been to ask the
child or keep in touch with the child about their school activities.• The incident may have caused trauma to the child as to avoid school
instead of being punished.• The action of the teacher is a form of corporal punishment as it
involved humiliation because of poor academic performance and hitting on the head. But, because it violated the right to live with dignity it is an abuse.
• The student may not be able to sue the teacher because of the lapse of time.
Conclusion
Our group agreed that the incident should not have been a burden to Anne if the parents have acted on the incident. If the school reached out and tried to help the student through counselling and conducted investigations regarding the incident to further prevent similar cases.
Recommendations
To the Parents:• Promote positive family functioning rather
than preventing abuse• Parenting seminars and trainingTo the School:• Home visitation• Strict implementation of rules and thorough
monitoring of teachers, staffs and students
