TOWER GAMEPurpose:• To have students work together and see what social peer interactions skills they use to work

together.

Activity:• Build a tower

Materials:• Index cards

Directions:

• Break students into equal groups.• Give each group a stack of index cards• Tell the groups that they are working together to build the tallest tower out of index cards.

Notes: Facilitator should look for the social skills peers are using with another, such as:

Observe group dynamics – Who takes charge? Is there discussion or does one person take over? Any positive or negative comments being said? **You may want to take some notes on your observations so that you can refer back to what you saw.

2. Do you think its important to have self control?

3. What can you do to ensure you don’t lose self control? For example: A teacher tells you something, and you really didn’t hear what the teacher said, but all

you hear is noise around you. What can you do?A: Ask the teacher to repeat him/her self

A lot of times, misunderstandings occur because… we don’t hear correctly

we don’t listen to what is being said.

FUN ACTIVITY TIMEStory time: Pass Right/Pass Left

ACTIVITY:

Have your entire group form a circle. The best format is to have them seated on the floor sitting “Indian" style. If this will not work with your group, you can have them in chairs or even standing in a circle. Give each person in the circle a penny, card, or some other small item that can be passed easily from hand to hand. Tell the group that you are going to read them a story and every time they hear any word that sounds like right, they are to pass the button in their hand to he person on their right depending on what they heard. Start reading the story slowly so that they have a chance to catch on to what you want them to do. After a few passes stop the story and ask them how they are doing. Check to see that everyone has a button in his hand. If your group is typical, some will have two or three buttons and others will not have any. Have them redistribute the buttons so that everyone has one again. Now continue to read the story, getting faster as you go. Stop the story a couple of more times to check on how they are doing.
