Prior to Windows 7
Add additional memory to all computers that will not be refreshed
Using SCCM create 64bit Windows 7 image
Set up OU structure preparing for SCCM
Test all applications – Building specific software needs to be copied to central location for creation of new packages
Setup printers on print servers and test
Planning meetings Meet with coordinators from various Departments Construction projects and timelines Summer school and Kidstop programs Building engineer projects – cleaning schedules – furniture moved from rooms Building and Grounds Network outages Purchasing – shipment dates to imaging center Warehouse – Delivery of hardware once it has been tagged and imaged
Meet with Individual buildings Technical Support, Principle, LMS, Custodian and Resource Manager to collaborate schedules so
we can all be successful and work around each other if necessary Final review of inventory allocations and then buildings were asked not to move any equipment prior
to the start of summer. Set up location for incoming imaged hardware to be stored if necessary as well as a location for
outgoing hardware.
NEARLY PERFECT STAGING – IMAGING AREA
1. Secured area to store hardware and equipment
2. Dock – Forklift – motorized pallet jacks
3. Large space with easy access to and from dock
4. No summer programs – No construction
5. Ample Electrical outlets and Data
6. Ability to store and dispose of cardboard
7. Ability to work after hours if necessary
8. Tables for setup and imaging
Reimaging Strategies and Workflows What to Think about….. Purchasing Before Summer Delivery Schedule Capacity to get this done a. staffing b. vacation schedules c pull in additional staff d. Other projects Asset management – how do we keep track of everything
Windows 7 Pro’s From a user standpoint:
• Ability to Pin programs to the Taskbar or Start Menu • Search feature • A better desktop. The taskbar has bigger buttons and full-sized
previews—and you can pin programs to it for one-click access. Also Snap, Peek, and Shake give you easy (and fun) new ways to juggle all those open windows. Online help available
From a tech support standpoint:
• It is supported, XP is near end of life. • The OS has most of the hardware drivers needed to attach new/old
hardware. • Good reason to “end of life” old software and hardware to move
forward.
