Solving the dialectic Fighting weeds, insects and diseases

Solution to the dialectic is inconceiving of the objective asbuilding the biological system inwhich crop plants out compete.

Build the soil properly and theinsects and disease will attack theweeds!

Measured in degrees brix Higher brix correlates

directly with highermineral content, morecomplete proteins, increases phytonutrients, and vitamins.

Also correlates withbetter flavor, moresweetness and longershelf life.

High brix crops will notrot. They Desiccate.

plant growth and production ispH 6.4

If sap pH exceeds 6.4, thisprobably means a shortage ofthe anions nitrogen, phosphateor sulfur. At pH 8 the odds ofinsect trouble is 100%.

Conversely, if sap pH is lowerthan 6.4, then there is a cationproblem, with possibledeficiencies of calcium, magnesium, potassium and/orsodium. Low sap pH suggests afar greater potential forfoliar disease. At pH 4.5 theprobability for fungalappearance is 100%.

Nutrient Density as aquality standard

Nutrient Density as aquality standard

When the biological system is functioning at ahigh level there are direct mineral vitamintrace element and nutrient improvements thatare easily verifiable in crops.

This nutrient improvement referred to asnutrient density is the general standard tovalidate the success of biological agriculture.

From the consumer's perspective, NutrientDense crops correlate directly with superiorflavor, superior shelf life and a broad rangeof health benefits related to the body'scomplete nutritional needs being met.

Working standard/definition ofNutrient Density and its status

Working standard/definition ofNutrient Density and its status

Nutrient Density as quality standard is, as of yet,not technically defined.

A collaborative process of specialists in theproduction of Nutrient Dense Crops is currentlyunderway to determine a clear, inexpensiveempirical test for all agricultural crops. Thisprocess will conclude in one to two years.

This is a project of the Real Food Campaign, whichwill be touched on at the end of this workshop.

The current working suggestions include a fieldBrix test, calcium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin Cand selenium level and ratio tests and antioxidantlevels lab tests.

Why These factors?Why These factors?

Brix- greater refraction of light through sapcorresponds with complex carbohydrates, complete proteins, and non reducing sugars, whichcorrelate directly with nutrition and flavor.

Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Selenium,{Boron, Potassium, Phosphorus and Nitrogen}-these minerals, in predetermined quantities andrations correlate directly with the presence andhealthy relationship of a number of other traceelements and vitamins.

A limited number of test factors limits the cost ofthe test.

ORAC/Antioxidant levels- a specific elevated levelof antioxidants generally implies overall nutritivevalue, energetics and phytonutrients.
