~ Biography.??? ~ Fernandes left to pursue his dream of starting a budget no-frills airline.

However, his application for a license from the Malaysian government was rejected.

It was through Datuk Pahamin A. Rejab, the former secretary-general of the Malaysian Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry that Fernandes came to meet with then Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in October 2001.

Mahathir advised Fernandes to buy AirAsia, the heavily indebted subsidiary of the Malaysian government-owned. Fernandes mortgaged his home and used his personal savings to acquire the company, comprising two ageing Boeing 737-300 jets and US$11 million worth of debts, and transformed it into an industry player. One year after his takeover, AirAsia had broken even and cleared all its debts.

~ Biography.??? ~ Fernandes estimates about 50 per cent of the travellers on Asia’s

budget airlines are first-time flyers. He estimated that only six per cent of Malaysians had ever travelled in a plane.

Fernandes says his timing was in fact perfect. He believed Malaysian travellers would embrace a cut-rate air service that would save them time and money, especially in a tight economy. That was why he copied one of the world's most successful no-frills carriers, Ireland's Ryanair (which is in turn modelled after Southwest Airlines in the United States).

~ Leadership process.?? ~

Interestingly enough, Tony Fernandes possesses a lot of similarity with his former boss and mentor, Richard Branson of Virgin. He worked with Virgin Atlantic as an auditor and financial controller for Branson's virgin record after graduating in London School of Economics.

Against the popular prophecy, under Fernandes' leadership and vision, AirAsia broke even within a mere 12 months and cleared its debt. Within a short span of time, AirAsia's size in terms of revenue, profits and popularity has eclipsed Malaysia's very own national carrier, MAS.

~ Why do we admired him.???? ~ We learn from this man that no matter how hard is life or your goals

to achieve, believe in yourself that you can get to it in future and everything with time is going to be fine and successful as long as you work hard and honestly to what you love .also never give up what you want to achieve. He loved what he do and he success on it.

Successful as he is today, he remains humble and stays down to earth. His most prominent trade marks air his red AirAsia cap, short sleeve t-shirt and a pair of jeans. No tie, no coat.

During one of his many interviews with the press, he once

joked:- "People recognize me because of this cap I'm wearing. But if I

take off this cap, you will see me as just another Indian guy!"
