TASK 1

AC 1.1 In order to ensure that Mr. Bob is cared for in the residential care home, explain how principles of support are applicable to his care.

Mr. Bob is suffering from the situation in which he requires support at a higher level. It is a

responsibility of people working in health and social care to support Mr. Bob and to help him in

fighting back with the issues he is facing in his day to day life. Mr. Bob is suffering from the

situation in which he requires love and support of the people as these types of activities will help

him in recovering from the dilemma.

There are certain set of principles available so as to take care of the patients coming for treatment

at health and social care workplace. Understanding these principles will help care practitioners to

provide better services to the patients coming for treatment:

Respect Individuality: It is necessary that every individual should be provided equal respect

and treated effectively. Service users should be provided privacy and space that are required by

them (Antiel, et. al., 2014). Request of the service users should be attended carefully by the care

practitioners.

Rights: It is necessary that the rights of service users should be considered by the care

practitioners. These duties are provided according to the GSCC Code of Practices for social

workers. Service users of health and social care workplace has right to know, has right to be

treated equally. Personal information of the service users should be kept confidential. It is

necessary that health and social care workplace should promote independence to the service

users while protecting them from danger (Hayes, 2014). Care practitioners should be accountable

for the quality. It is necessary that the quality service should be provided to the service users.

Privacy: Maintaining the privacy of information related with the service users is another aspect

that is necessary care practitioners. It is necessary that at the time when service users need to live

alone then they should be left alone in private.

In the case of Bob it is necessary that these principles should be followed as these aspects will

help Mr. Bob to cope up from the situation as he will be able to discover his importance in

society with the effect of which he will star living happily (Thielke, et. al., 2012). This will help

Mr. Bob to cope up from the dilemma and will help him in recovering.

AC 1.3 Analyse benefits of using a person centred approach for Mr. Bob.

Person centred approach is the approach which focuses on developing a feeling of mutual

understanding and providing respect to the care patients by the care practitioners. This is the

approach in which organisation focus on the needs and wants of the care patients so that service

user could get emotionally attached with the workplace (Pastore, et. al., 2013). It is necessary

that health and social care workplace should sue person centred approach as this is the approach

with the help of which service users build a feeling of trust with the workplace and cooperate

with the care practitioners. There are several benefits attached with person centred approach that

will help Mr. Bob:

Providing respect to Mr. Bob will help in building self respect and his importance in public. This

kind of activity will help in relaxing Mr. Bob with the effect of which he will cooperate with the

staff members of health and social care workplace (Pastore, et. al., 2013).

Partnership and collaboration will help Mr. Bob to build trust with the care team who will

provide him the treatment. If Mr. Bob will build trust on care team then care team will be able to

provide treatment more effectively with the effect of which Mr. Bob will recover soon.

These kinds of activities are simple and are helpful for the patients like Mr. Bob, because it

ensures that the patient could feel relaxed and reduce its tensions. Patient like Mr. Bob should

not have the tension as it will hinder in the recovery process and will affect the health of the care

patient (Brown, et. al., 2016). Hence, it could be said that person centred approach will help Mr.

Bob in recovering from the dilemma he is facing.

TASK 2

AC 1.2, AC 3.3 Outline the procedures for protecting clients, patients, and colleagues from harm and evaluate the effectiveness on interpersonal working.

Being a senior staff member it is a responsibility of Mr. Arthur to protect the clients from any

kind of harm. In this case it is being analysed that not once Mr. Arthur has forgotten to provide

medicines at many at a time to his patients which a very irresponsible behaviour. Such kind of

behaviour could harm the patient and could lead to a serious issue. There are certain set

procedures that will help in protecting clients, patients, and colleagues from harm which should

be known by each and every care practitioner working in health and social care workplace. These

set procedures are:

Care practitioners should prepare a checklist of the patients that are to be care off. After that

make a round to every patient present on checklist and marking all the checkups will help in

ensuring that the care all required treatments are provided to the patient (Hancock, 2012).

Having a little conversation with the care patient will help in relaxing him and will help in

gaining more information regarding the health of a patient.

It is necessary that while switching the shift care practitioner leaving should provide all the

information to another member so that another person could effectively take care of the patients.

Interprofessional Working

Interprofessional working is the working in which people of different professions works

together. It is necessary for the care practitioners to work with the people of different profession

because it helps in managing the work more effectively (Brown, et. al., 2016). Dealing with the

patients of mental instability care practitioners requires the help of other people as these patients

requires special care and treatment. Working as team helps in ensuring that that people suffering

from mental instability could be treated effectively and care practitioners could help them in

recovering in more effective manner.

Care practitioners should provide training to other people present in health and social care

workplace on how to behave with the people facing mental issues. This type of activity will help

in making the workplace more comfortable for the care patients and in recovering them with the

dilemma they are facing (Pastore, et. al., 2013).

TASK 3

AC 1.4 From the case study, explain your understanding of ethical dilemmas/

conflicts that has risen in providing care and supporting Mrs Helen. Ensure you

comment on how health, safety and security maybe addressed.

The situation in which apparent conflict between moral imperatives creates is known as ethical

dilemma. It occurs if obeying someone would result in transgressing others. In the case of Mrs.

Helen blood transfusion and emergency surgery is necessary. It is a medical emergency and care

practitioners will have to do so but, on the other hand Mrs. Helen is refusing for such kind of

treatment as she is a Jehovah Witness. Her belief in Jehovah is stopping her for such kind of

treatment. It’s an emergency situation and blood transfusion is necessary in this situation. This is

a situation of ethical dilemma as if they will provide treatment to Mrs Helen then they will hurt

her values and beliefs which would be against Jehovah (Larsson, et. al., 2014). On the other hand

7www.hndassignments.co.uk

Page 8: Principles in health and social care assignment

Principles in Health and Social Care Assignment

if they will not do blood transfusion then the life of Mrs Helen and the fetus would come into

danger. In this situation it is necessary that wise decision should be taken by the medical

practitioners as according to business ethics any care practitioner cannot hurt the values, beliefs,

culture and religion of any person.

For a care practitioner providing proper treatment to the care patient is one of the most important

aspects attached with his profession. Keeping the care patient safe and secure from anything that

could harm is a most necessary thing for a care practitioner. In this case care practitioners will

have to take permission from the guardian or family member of Mrs. Helen regarding blood

transfusion and with the permission of family member they can process out the treatment and

could save the life of both Mrs. Helen as well as Fetus (Thielke, et. al., 2012).

TASK 4

AC 2.1 Explain how you have implemented policies, legislation, regulations and

codes of practices in significance to your own work in health and social care.

It is necessary that all the rules and regulations, policies and legislations should be followed by

workplace. Doing so will help in smooth functioning of health and social care workplace.

Implementation of all the policies, legislations, regulations and codes will provide a direction to

workplace. People working in the organisation will work in a proper manner and will ensure all

the acre patients should be taken care of adequately. Further discussion will provide how

implementation of policies, legislation, regulations and codes of practices could be done:

According to Data Protection Act 1998, health and social care workplace will have to ensure that

information related with the patient as well as employees working in the organisation should be

kept confidential. It should not be shared with any unauthorised person. Access to the personal

information of employees and care patient should be hold only by an authorised person only

(Antiel, et. al., 2014).

Respecting the care patients and employees of workplace is another aspect. Health and social

care workplace should treat the employees equally and should provide all the services which

could protect them from any kind of harm.

Health and social care workplace should ensure that appropriate information must be shared by

the care practitioners to the care patients and treatment should be provided accordingly. Any

false information could lead to harm care patients which would result in affecting the image of

health and social care workplace.

AC2.2, AC 2.3 Explain how local policies and procedures can be developed in

accordance with national and policies requirements and evaluate the impact of these

policies and procedures on organisational policy and practice.

Policies and procedures are prepared to maintain the decorum of the workplace. It is a

combination of basic decision, commitment and action made by the people who held authority.

Local policies are prepared by the internal authorities of the organisation to ensure that

workforce could be managed and all the ethical aspects should be followed by the people coming

to workplace (Weinberg, 2014). For a legal authority it is necessary that local policies should be

developed in accordance with national policy requirements as it increases the authenticity of the

policies and procedures that are to be followed and create a huge impact on the workforce.

Preparing the local policies according to the national policies reduces risk of uncertainties and

reduces the hindrance of any political or government authorities. There are certain government

policies and procedures following which will help in smooth functioning of the care homes. Like

contributing in the economy of the country will help the health and social care workplace

(Brown, et. al., 2016). Interest of the people should be protected by the care homes, health and

social care workplace should indulge in various welfare and social care activities. Health and

social care should work providing safety and security to the people attached with the workplace

AC 3.1 Explain the theories that accentuate health and social care practice.

There are certain theories that accentuate health and social care practices. A better understanding

could be developed by discussing various theories that would be helpful for health and social

care workplace.

Care practitioners will have to understand the Maslow’s theory of needs. This will help them in

framing a better understanding with the needs and wants of the people coming for their

treatment. Every care patient coming for treatment has certain set of needs and wants. Providing

treatment according to the needs and wants of the people will help them in recovering from the

problem they are facing (Weinberg, 2014). Maslow has divided needs of the people in hierarchy

and understanding the stage of the need will help in providing treatment accordingly.

10www.hndassignments.co.uk

Page 11: Principles in health and social care assignment

Principles in Health and Social Care Assignment

For example: some of the care patients come health and social care workplace to feel safe and

secure, in this case care practitioners should work to fulfil the safety and security needs of the

people working at the workplace. Some of the people coming to health and social care workplace

needs love and care these types of people falls under love and belongingness stage. Care

practitioners working in health and social care should evaluate the needs and wants according to

the hierarchy provided by Maslow.

People suffering from mental issues need special treatment and so they require love of the care

practitioners. In this case health and social care authorities should give instructions to the

workforce that they should treat care patients with love and should provide the information they

are willing to know (Antiel, et. al., 2014).

Another theory that will help care practitioners is Erikson’s Eight Stage Model. According to

Erik Erikson there are eight stages of Psycho Social Crises. It is necessary for the care

practitioners taking care of the mental patients. Erikson has divided the crises according to the

age group. Care practitioners should analyse the age of a patient and should provide treatment

according to the age group in which he is falling. Care practitioners should try to resolve these

crisis as failure to overcome these crisis will affect the psychology of the patient which will

affect the psychosocial development of an individual.

Page 12: Principles in health and social care assignment

(Saul, 2013)

Therefore, it could be evaluated the following these models care practitioners could understand

the mental state of the patient coming for the treatment and will be able to provide treatment

accordingly (Hayes, 2014).

AC 3.2 Analyse how social processes such as isolation and exclusion, marginalisation

impact on users of health and social care services.

Social processes have a great impact on health and social care service users. There are several

social processes that are necessary to be taken care of by the care practitioners. These processes

are as follows:

Isolation is one of the aspects attached with social processes. People who have communicable

diseases are kept in different wards in health and social care workplace. Likewise people facing

mental issues are also being kept in separate wards due to which they feel isolated (Thielke, et.

al., 2012). It is necessary that health and social care practitioners should remain in touch with

such patients so that they could relax and feel comfortable in those wards.

Marginalisation is a potential form of discrimination because in this case person is treated

different from others or it could be said that he is not being treated normally. In such case social

processes could affect the image of health and social care workplace. It is necessary that every

12www.hndassignments.co.uk

Principles in Health and Social Care Assignment

care patient coming to health and social care workplace should be treated equally and should be

provided fair treatment as any inequality may lead to cause harm to the goodwill of the

workplace (Larsson, et. al., 2014).

Poverty is another aspect due to which people coming for the treatment in health and social care

workplace feels uncomfortable. People who are poor feel socially excluded and are treated

differently in health and social care. It is necessary that care practitioners should treat them

equally as they are human beings who should be provided proper treatment and benefits that a

normal care patient is being provided.

AC 4.1, AC 4.2 Create your portfolio based on your experience working in health

care sector, explain your role, responsibilities, accountabilities and duties when

working with those within and outside the health and social care workplace.

Evaluate own contribution to the development and implementation of health and

social care organisational policies.

Every individual working in health and social care workplace has certain set of roles and

responsibilities. It is necessary that he should understand those responsibilities and work

accordingly. Below is a portfolio of my roles and responsibilities that I think I should follow

while working at health and social care workplace.

It is necessary that I should respect the values, beliefs and culture of the care patients coming to health and social care workplace.I am accountable to maintain the dignity of the organisation (Pastore, et. al., 2013). This will help in sustaining at workplace.Processing out the work according to the requirements of the workplace is necessary.

It is necessary that I should work on my communication as it is necessary to communicate effectively with each and every

I understand the importance of motivation at workplace and try to motivate the people working in health and social care workplace.Monitoring people is also important and I use to keep eye on the staff members working at the workplace. Providing instructions regarding the work process is equally important. AC 4.3 In ensuring you meet practice requirements make recommendations to

develop on your own contribution.

Working in a health and social care workplace I have analysed various aspects that are required

so as to refine my work. It is required that I should work on these recommendations so that my

work at the workplace could be managed in more effective manner.

My Role and Responsibilities at Work

Areas of recommendation of my work (i.e. SWOT)to ensure good practice.

My Roles andResponsibilities atwork:

My Accountability atwork:

My Duties at work:

I should promote equality at workplace. Being a health care practitioner it is necessary that I should remain unbiased and provide equal treatment to each and every individual coming for the services of health and social care workplace.

Avoiding discrimination is equally important. I should work on this aspect and should ensure that all the staff members working in health and social care should avoid discrimination.

Promoting independence is also necessary and at the same time I should take care that any kind of harm could be avoided at the workplace. Needs of service users should not be generalised by the health care practitioners. Care practitioners should try to fulfil the needs of service users (Brown, et. al., 2016).

Maintaining confidentiality is one of the most important aspects in health and social care workplace. As a care patient I should understand the complexity of maintaining confidentiality and should ensure that personal information of any care patient or workforce should remain confidential. Only authorised person should have the access to the information related with client and workforce.

These are some of the necessary recommendations which are required to be worked upon by me.

These aspects will help in managing the work and will help in promoting healthy environment at

workplace (Hancock, 2012).

CONCLUSION

Understanding all the aspects indulge in report it could be concluded that every individual

working in health and social care should ensure that he should work fairly and should provide

proper treatment to the people coming for care services. It is necessary that care practitioner

should focus on various theories an provide treatment accordingly to care patients as these

theories will help in developing better understanding with the treatment that should be provided

to care patients. It could also be concluded that for a care practitioner, understanding own roles

and responsibilities is equally important and he should work to refine his skills and abilities. This

will help in providing better services to care patients coming for their treatment to health and

social care.
