On that subject, I would like to thank Miss. Barratt, who took over the planning of the camp when Mr. Clelland left. She did a wonderful job and put together a program that really stimulated and stretched our senior students. Thanks also go to Ms. Chapman who spent a couple of nights on camp, temporarily giving up her home comforts and her herd of goats! As Term 4 progresses I have noticed that some students are often arriving at school late. Understandably children get tired as the year rolls towards its end but it’s important to be on time for school. Teachers plan lessons for maximum benefit to their students and if your child misses the explanations or discussion that set up the morning’s learning, it can put them at a disadvantage. It can also be unsettling for a child to arrive quite late and it can take a while to get into the swing of things. I know as well as anyone, how hard it can be sometimes to hurry children through the morning routines of breakfast and getting ready for the day. The occasional lapse is not a problem but instilling habits of punctuality and respect for school will stand children in good stead for the world of work and for life in general. NEWS FROM BADDAGINNIE SWANPOOL We welcomed back our Melbourne campers and enjoyed hearing some of their tales. Wednesday was also special as we celebrated Miss Fitz.’s birthday with a splendid rendition of Happy Birthday and some celebratory biscuits and slice. It was great to hear that Miss Fitz. enjoyed her special day at school with all of us. Ms. Fitz’s Room

Such a quick week! It was good to see everyone in the Junior Room had a great long weekend!

This week we had a recount big write – “My Best Christmas.” As part of planning we brainstormed wow vocabulary, and talked about timely openers, first, then, after, later, finally.

In Maths we have worked on fractions this week.

We have started as a whole school practising some Japanese songs for the end of the year break-up.

Junior class will have an extra note about the Sleepover! Mark this date on your calendar! Please fill in all your child’s details, and return to school as soon as possible.

Have a special Remembrance day.

Ms. Hand and Ms. Weeks’ Room We have been looking more closely at the structure and features of a recount text this week with a focus on personal recount. This means we need to include our own author’s voice through feelings and thoughts as we write. We will continue with this genre of writing over the next couple of weeks, including a Big Write next Wednesday which means, watch out for Big Talk homework on Tuesday.

The Grade 3-6 students have enjoyed testing their division skills and applying known mathematical strategies to solve problems through various games with partners.

Friday 17th Nov – Chapman

This week we have again been missing students due to the wonderful opportunity they had to attend the Rubicon Writers’ Camp. We have not heard any news from them yet but we will be sure to have a lot to tell you about next week. The students on this camp were also on our Melbourne camp SO next week stay tuned for a podcast all about camps! We had a wonderful cooking session in Kitchen Garden despite our lower numbers where we made bread for rolls, then chopped up a wonderful salad and filled the fresh bread with chicken and our gorgeous salad. We also had a creative session to build a beautiful fruit salad. Next week's Kitchen Garden will see another whole school cooking session to bake for our Open Garden fundraiser. We are looking for donations of off cuts of ag pipe- 25 ml. If anyone has any we would appreciate it. We are also looking for socks! Any coloured odd socks will do. Miss. Hanby’s Room This week was a short week in the Junior Room. The students have enjoyed working on imaginative recounts in Literacy and are starting to work on their acts for the Christmas concert. It has been a small group this week with most Year 3-6's on the Writers’ Camp. The remaining students have had fun with combined classes in Kitchen and on Wednesday was another transition day for our new Preps. Alex and Carissa had lots of fun in the classroom making friends and doing some literacy activities with the other students.

Garden helpers wanted! Tuesday’s at 3.00pm for half an hour each week. Come and enjoy the great weather and good company whilst making our garden look fantastic!

Mrs. B’s and Ms. Hand’s Room A short week with lots of excitement surrounding it. There was a lot of chatter about the Halloween community event from Monday and of course the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. With so many extra days off in a row it was pleasing to see everyone back on board and ready to get stuck into their learning. In Maths we have been working with concepts around fractions with activities including paper folding different shapes to represent halves and quarters. In Reading we have been focussing our attention on punctuation – what it looks like, what its purpose is and how it can change our voice expression and understanding. Our Technology lesson yesterday was developed to allow the kids to show their understanding of the different effects they could apply to a photo using the app PhotoBooth. Using photos they captured last week, the kids enjoyed being able to view all 9 effects of themselves at once. Please continue to read every day at home and support your child bringing their reader bags daily. Ms. Barratt’s Room Over the past few weeks, we have been focussing on non-fiction text in Reading. Students have been making and justifying predictions, and making connections with their own knowledge and experiences of the world. We currently have a small collection of magazines in our class library (science, cooking, 4WD, animals). We would welcome any suitable donations to our collection! In Japanese, we have been learning to use Japanese symbols when translating words from English. On Thursday we completed a survey for the Strathbogie Shire, about our favourite spaces in the community, and provided our ideas for new spaces.

A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the ‘Nightmare on Cowslip Street’ on Monday night. A lot of hard work was put in and everyone’s contribution is greatly appreciated.
