As you know, students may begin to lose focus on academics and start to become a little more social during this time of year. Please work with us to communicate with your child that it is important to stay focused until the end of the year. We will be administering the new California Standards test (Smarter Balanced Assessments) during the first three weeks of May. The students will be tested during their English and Math classes using laptop computers. We will also be administering the 8 th grade Science test this year using the computers. We will be running a block schedule during this time. The block schedule will consist of 3 classes per day. Please make certain your child is in school every day so they do not miss their testing window. Individual student results will be sent home to parents in August. Please do not schedule any appointments during this window unless it is absolutely necessary and please assist your student to arrive on time. If your child is absent for any of the tests, they will need to make them up upon their return to school. In addition to State testing, we have a lot of fun, end-of-the-year activities planned. Students will have the opportunity to participate in Round-Up Day and 8 th graders will be able to attend a field trip to Great America, 8 th grade picnic and an 8 th grade dance. Students must meet end-of-the-year activity “eligibility requirements” to participate. These requirements are outlined in the newsletter. Please work with us to make certain that these last few months of school go as smoothly possible. If you have concerns regarding your child’s grades, please contact their teacher immediately to ask for assistance. Please also review behavior and academic expectations with your child to help reinforce positive results. Thanks to everyone for your support of our school throughout the changes we have made with our bell schedule and our interventions and support classes this year. We believe that these changes have allowed us to make a difference for your children more than ever before. Your support and help have really contributed to our success. If you have any suggestions or comments regarding any of these changes, please do not hesitate to contact me. Warm Regards, Kade Petersen, Principal

    Mustangs Dear Parents/Guardians,

With the recent run of perfect, sunny weather, spring fever is now officially upon us! • Assistant Principals Message

Spring season is upon us! Please take some time to relax and prepare for the home stretch of the school year. March 31st marks the end of the third quarter of school. Every parent should review their childs 3rd quarter progress grades closely, and discuss academic problems/successes with their child. I encourage all students to do their best and seek help from their teachers if they are struggling. There is still plenty of time to raise the final Semester grade, which is the grade that appears on the students record.

Spring is a great time of year. The weather starts to warm and activities abound. Some students have a tendency to get distracted from their main assignmentdoing well in school and behaving appropriately. Please review school rules with your child. Dress Code will be strictly enforcedNo short shorts, no saggy pants, no sandals, no tank tops, spaghetti straps or muscle shirts. If you have any questions, please check the rules in the Student Handbook or give the school a call.

Spring also brings SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessments) testing. This year all testing will be on computers starting May 1st. Our teachers have prepared the students to do well on all of these tests. Please encourage them to do their best on these assessments.

Before you know it, the school year will be over. By now, students have had time to adjust to the school year, and know that they can lose end of the year privileges due to behavioral problems at school. It is my hope that all students will continue to behave properly during the Fourth Quarter; and remain eligible for these fun activities. End of Year Activities for 8th graders include: the Great America Trip, the Promotion Dance, and the 8th Grade BBQ. Both 7th and 8th grade students may participate in lunch time activities and our Round-Up Day Carnival in June. Sincerely, Dr. Raymond Raskop Assistant Principal

  • STUDENT SAFETY Dear Parent/Guardian On February 8th, the FUSD Board of Education adopted a Student Safety Resolution stating that all Fremont students are entitled to a public education, regardless of their parents actual or perceived national origin, citizenship, or immigration status. This resolution re-affirms the Fremont Unified School Districts Stance against discrimination, bullying and harassment in and out of the classroom. Fremont Unified is committed to the success of all students, irrespective of their ability, beliefs, ethnicity, gender identification, immigration status, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. A copy of the Resolution is available at http://bit.ly/FUSDStudentSafety. Every student has the right to attend school in a safe and secure environment. Our district, schools and community have an obligation to promote a mutual respect that supports dignity and equality. To that end, Fremont Unified has policies, procedures and practices in place that are designed to reduce and eliminate discrimination and harassment, as well as to quickly address incidents when they occur. I encourage any student who believes they have been subjected to any form of harassment, including acts based on race, color, or national origin, by District staff, students, or a third-party, to contact a school administrator. All reports will be taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly. By working together to respect and embrace the diversity that makes Fremont such a unique and special community, every student will receive the educational opportunity they deserve. Sincerely, Dr. Jim Morris Superintendent

    CALIFORNIA SCHOOL DASHBOARD

Beginning in mid-March, the California Department of Education is field testing a new website designed to help families access important information about K12 districts and schools. Called the California School Dashboard, the site features easy-to-read reports on multiple measures of school success, including test scores, graduation rates, English Learner progress and suspension rates. The Dashboard is part of California's new school accountability system. It is the next step in a series of major shifts in public education that have raised the bar for student learning, transformed testing and placed the focus on equity for all students.
