HEPS CHRISTMAS MARKET

Dear Parents,

THE MAROONDAH FESTIVAL – 9TH NOVEMBER

Congratulations to Mrs Nicky Marran, Bev Darling and their

wonderful team of helpers who worked both Saturday (setting

up) and Sunday all day at the Maroondah Festival. The stalls,

both lolly and interactive Bee were a huge success! Our

students: Erin, Jess, Ollie, Charli, Kyle, Liam, Lucy, Meg,

Molly, Reese, Tarni and Katrina did an outstanding job coaxing

passers-by to visit the interactive stall, and discussing the plight

of the bumble bee and the importance of bees to our food

source. They were complimented on numerous occasions for

their manners and their communication skills; they were fantastic ambassadors for HEPS. Thank you to

all of you who contributed to the success of the day, it has taken months of preparation and hard work.

SWIMMING Staff and students have consistently assured me that the program at Nunawading Aquatic Centre is

excellent. I have had the opportunity to visit the students on few occasions and was impressed with the

quality of the instruction. The students are looking forward to the ‘fun’ day on Friday as a celebration for

their commitment to the program.

WORKING BEE

Thank you to Mr Wayne Smith and Mr Kieran Halpin with the support of Mr Brett Smith for the

construction of a retaining wall/seat between the main building and the BER Building. This is the start of

the paved garden area promised since the school’s 50th

birthday. Thank you to Mr Justin Staggard for

helping with the design of the garden (plans are attached to this newsletter). We anticipate that the pavers

will be placed before the end of the year as the construction develops, so if you wish to have a paver

included, this is the last opportunity before they are fired and placed in the ground.

NEW MOD 5 PORTABLE

The department has notified us that we will be receiving another portable which will be installed opposite

the current grade 2 portable; it will share the decking area. This is exciting as we will now have a grade 2

learning block where the grade two students will share a common area. This will impact a little on the

play equipment but as suggested earlier this year once the portable is in place we can focus on this part of

the school ground improving the quality of this play space.

BAND TOUR

Miss Ashleigh Yeates and her talented band will visit Bendigo on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

They will perform for three primary schools in the city and enjoy a night at the Bendigo Science

Discovery Centre. We wish them a wonderful time together and know that they will impress their

primary school hosts.

RECOGNITION OF EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Congratulations to the many HEPS students who are also members of the Heathmont

Uniting Netball Club and who participated in competition to support Janelle’s Miracle

Netball Classic, a fund raiser for cancer research. All of the teams did very well and

they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, despite the heat and long day. Congratulations to

the Under 11s Green team who were placed first in their section. These girls gave up

their Sunday for this worthwhile cause, demonstrating empathy and care for those with

specific needs.

Congratulations to Willow King for achieving her Grey Wolf with Cubs; this is a prestigious award which

requires overcoming considerable challenges and goals over a number of years.

was thrilled but not surprised at his exceptional report.

Well done to all children involved for their achievements.
