EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Burrup Bouncer Team 2017

The Burrup Bouncer try outs for 2017 were held last

week with many keen students turning up to be

involved. Congratulations to the following students

who made the 2017 team:

Arya Pandey, Jake Mertens, Chloe Hornhardt

Amber Nielsen, Jye Sander , Tate David, Zane

Goes, Milly D’Amico, Lauryn Ieremia, Chloe Bern,

Karina Peachy, Mila Jenkins, Ted Andrijasevich

and Kendall Sherrard

There was a huge interest from all of the students at

Peg’s Creek and these students demonstrated

outstanding skipping skills in two try-outs for

selection to the 2017 team.

Welcome to some of the previous members of the

2016 team but a HUGE welcome to our new faces.

We hope you enjoy and most of all, become the

Pilbara’s best skippers! Bring on 2017!

Behaviour Focus

In 2017 one of our main focus areas is to continue

to develop our policy and procedures in the area of

Student Behaviour. Staff discussed our four

Behaviour Expectations: Safety, Respect,

Responsibility and Excellence.

Our Behaviour Vouchers are a new initiative this

year to maintain focus. These are linked to factions

and will contribute to the end of year shield.

We are seeking consistency across the school in

understanding, language and consequences.

Staff developed a common understanding of our

green, blue, orange, red card communication

system.

Attendance

At our school we are aiming to have 65% or more attending attending on a regular basis. This is the blue section of the graph. We are continuing to work with families to help address the many reasons

work with families to help address the many reasons for children not coming to school. It is important that you reply to any request from the school to provide reasons for your child’s absence. This may come from any staff member at the school., eg. class teacher, AIEO, Front Office. It may be a phone call, note home or through the SMS system. We continue to appreciate parents/carers

who maintain communication with the school.

LEADERSHIP

Prefects and Faction Leaders

Our new Prefects and Faction Leaders were

presented with their new Badges at assembly last

week. We look forward to their initiatives and

leadership throughout the coming year. The

Prefects led their first assembly, presented an item

and managed their new responsibilities with ease.

TA11 Jaiden - In Maths we are adding and

subtracting big numbers. In English we are learning

about persuasive texts. In Science we are talking

about solids, liquids and gasses. We made portraits

of ourselves and made predictions for our futures

and wrote a little bit about ourselves.

TA10 Tate - In Writing we are learning about

persuasive texts and we have also been learning

about P.E.E.L which is Purpose, Exploration,

Evidence and Link which helps us to organise our

ideas.

TA15 Chloe - Some people have moved from our

class. In Maths we have been timing ourselves with

cards and putting them into biggest to smallest.

Classroom Representatives

We had our first Classroom Representative Meeting

last week. The reps all have their new badges and

are ready to lead their classes.

TA2 Justin – We have been learning the school

and classroom rules. We are also learning how to

rule up our books and how to write on the lines.

TA5 Max - I like the book corner and the puzzle

corner. We have a super hero chair, and I had a go

on it. It was good!

TA3 Phoenix & Will - We have been making hot air

balloons out of paper mache. For fitness we are

doing Jump Jam and we play Happy Cake. We have

also been reading Flip Flop which is a story about

penguins, and we are also making penguins.

TA9 Nikki - In Maths we are playing math games,

learning our multiplication and measuring length.

We wrote some poems and played boggle – which

is a game with letters that we have to make words

with. We moved to our new class this week and

everyone is happy.

TA16 Anna - We are all reading the Map Maker

Chronicle for our class novel. In Maths we are

learning lots of different strategies like

compensating, and front loading. In writing we are

learning to recite a story called “The Emperor’s New

Clothes”. Everything is going well.

You Can Do It

We are continuing with the You Can Do It program in 2017 and starting with the Organisation key. Some things that your child can do to show their organisation skills are:

Take care of their things

Use time to finish chores or getting their work done before they play

Listen to what adults would like them to do

Every class has You Can Do It lessons planned during the fortnight. There will be two whole school activities where classes are buddied together for an activity that is linked to our key for success. The second of these is planned for Week 8, Monday, 20 March.
