It was certainly a highlight for our students and teachers. Your children loved explaining and sharing their Term 3 learning, which I’m sure you agree was fantastic. After a thorough recruitment process, we have provisionally appointed a new Art teacher, Kristina Verhagen. Kristina, who currently teaches Year 2, has loved using the Art room this term with 2V and other Greythorn clas- ses. She brings to this new role her Fine Arts degree and background, including her own experiences and envia- ble skills as an artist. Although Kristina is thrilled about her appointment, she has elected to finish 2015 with her Year 2 class and start the Art role in 2016. In Term 4, we intend to employ an Art teacher on a short -term contract. I am confident this arrangement is our best option for the remainder of 2015. Please join me in congratulating Kristina as she pre- pares to join our specialist team. All Victorian teachers and Principals are required to be registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). To obtain full registration, graduate teachers work with a mentor to hone their skills and complete a profes- sional learning project. Congratulations to Matt Baker and Jade Cooper, who successfully presented their work to a large group of our staff on Monday, demonstrating they can meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Thank you also to their mentors, Karen Shields and Anna Webb, for their guidance and support. Last night, School Council ratified updates to two Greythorn school policies. You can access these via the links below, or on our website: SunSmart Policy, which reflects our commitment as a SunSmart School; and Student Bullying and Harassment Policy, which all government schools update as part of our policy cycle. Finally, congratulations to: Our energised Taiko Drummers, including Ms. Odou, who delighted the rest of the school and shook the stadi- um with their assembly performance on Monday. The gymnastics team, who competed for the first time on Monday at the Eastern Gymnastics competition. They did a terrific job, considering it was the first ever competition for some students. A video of some proud performances was shared with staff and will be a prelude to our first assembly in Term 4. Thank you to Daniel Zito and Juliette Browne for their work with these proud students. Kind regards, Kim Dray A reminder that this Friday is the last day of Term 3 and school finishes at 2:30pm. Have a safe and relax- ing break with your children. We will welcome our students back to school on Monday October 5 th .

School Banking

There will be no School Banking this Friday. School Banking will resume on the first Friday of Term 4 - Friday 9th October 2015. SCHOOL BANKING TROPHY: We have a new winner! Congratulations to PR for winning the School Banking Trophy. Well done to all our amazing bankers.

Commonwealth Bank School Banking Update – Please Read Following the decision last month to recall the Cosmic Light Beam Torch due to a potential safety issue, a deci-sion has been made to also withdraw the upcoming Lunar Light Band reward from the School Banking Rewards Program. To avoid disappointment there is a new reward item available for redemption in Term 4 while stocks last. Students can now test their skills with a game of frisbee with the new Galaxy Glider! Once students have collected 10 tokens, they can simply include a note, along with their 10 tokens in their deposit wallet on banking day to advise that they would like to redeem their tokens for the Galaxy Glider reward item. Don’t forget the Outer Space Savers Money Box is also available in Term 4.

THE GPS COMPASS CHALLENGE

On Friday, in brilliant Spring sunshine, the Years 3 and 4s worked together in the GPS Compass Challenge as

part of our “We Come from the Land Down Under” inquiry unit.

They learnt to use handheld compasses and trundle wheels to follow directions and then used IPads to read QR

codes to find answers to quiz questions about Australia.

It was a bit challenging at first but everyone did really well, especially as many had never used a compass or trun-

dle wheel before. Thank you so much to the many parents who helped us.
