Principal’s Report
We have had another productive fortnight here at
Gladstone, with our students prepared for learning
each day! Our classrooms have been a hive of
activity with our students completing work tasks and
teachers preparing for end of term assessments.
We have had a few cooler starts and some very wet
days here at school, families are reminded to
carefully label their school clothes including school
hat to ensure that when they are taken off and not
being used they can be quickly returned to their
owners. It is important that where possible our
students attend school in their full school uniform,
we do have a number of items including school
jumpers and long pants in our clothing pool if your
child does not have correct uniform items, please let
us know in the office.
Our school photos are being held on Monday,
please be sure to send photo order envelopes back
to school. All students will be photographed on photo
day even if you are not ordering a portrait pack.
Please see the attached information for details on
the new social distancing policies and arrangements
by the photographers.
As our term progresses we are being updated with
easing restrictions amongst our communities and
our schools, with the easing of these restrictions our
school will begin participating in more activities
including inter school activities as of next term. We
need to continue to maintain our social distancing
policy and our site is still closed to non-essential
visitors. If you do need to enter the school please
come directly to the office, if there is no one at the
office please phone us and a staff member will come
to greet you. All visitors to our site must sign in our
visitor sign in book as well as site and sign our safety
briefing. Thank you all for your patience and
understanding. A full guide to the operation of our
NSW Schools is available to download.
Please follow the link to the guide for parents and
carers – A guide to NSW school students returning
to face-to-face learning. If you wish to view a hard
copy of the guide, please contact us in the office and
we will send one home.
As our assembly this fortnight it was my great
pleasure to present our first Bronze awards for 2020.
It is great to see so many of our students striving to
be the best students they can be!
These awards do not come easy and our students
have had to demonstrate their commitment to
learning along with being Fair, Safe and Respectful
Learners and friends in the classroom and
playground. Congratulations, William, Chace, Hugo,
Ashlee, Mia, William, Lilly and Lincoln on receiving
our first Bronze awards for 2020! Keep up the great
work!
Have a great week,
Rebecca Smith,
Principal

In our classrooms… Infants Class
Student of the week: Asher Taylor Academic Award: Jessie Delaforce – for her amazing efforts in writing. Behaviour Award: Willow Swan for always being a great helper in the classroom and a kind friend to her peers. What an amazing and productive fortnight we have had… we are all working on our new writing task and have created characters for our new stories based on the adventures we have read in the well-known Pamela Allen story, ‘Alexander’s Outing.’ Alexander explored parts of Sydney and found himself in quite the predicament, we are excited to see what kind of adventure our characters find themselves on! We hope to share these at our next assembly and on our Class Dojo! Our maths lessons have been incredibly creative with all of us exploring fractions, we have been working together to solve some very tricky problems involving sharing whole objects as well as groups of objects evenly. We are learning that our number facts are important and are helping us workout some of our fractions problems. Mrs Smith Check out our musical genius as we learn how to hold notes for more than one beat and follow along as we learn some new songs with Mr Heath
Primary Class
Behaviour - Cale Reardon-Buckland
Academic - Hugo Jones
Student of the week - Bailey Donnelly The journey of recycling continues. In reading, we're learning about pollution to better understand the importance of recycling and sustainability. In writing, we've been pretending we are something made of plastic, recycled and reused for three lives to understand the way we use plastic in our everyday lives. In geography, we've been recycling Miss Marion's shredded paper into paper bowls to give the paper a new life!! Everywhere we look, we're integrating our Material World Unit!! We are hoping that each student could bring in an old piece of clothing they no longer need - a shirt that doesn't fit, pants with a hole, etc. We have big plans for them!! Mrs Scullion

SRC News The SRC have worked really hard in preparation for our meal deal next week. Instead of deciding what would be on the menu, we surveyed all the students with a few options to see what they wanted. Out of all the yummy choices such as nachos, beef stroganoff and spaghetti bolognaise, they have chosen chicken nuggets, pies and sausage rolls. It seems they really miss their canteen food, so these will be the choices we provide for next week's meal deal. Next week's deal will be served with a side of either popcorn or Grainwaves and a drink. All that for $5!! Orders need to be in by Tuesday 16th June. The SRC have decided to use a portion of their funds to purchase some bowls and plates to use for our meal deals. Each week we have been purchasing single use dinnerware and, when studying pollution and recycling, it isn't a great choice to continue doing this for our environment. All meals from here on in will be provided on purchased dinner ware that will be washed and dried after each meal deal by the SRC. How exciting to be spending our funds and saving the environment at the same time!! Mrs Scullion and the SRC
P&C News Our P&C are raffling off a generously donated load of wood. Perfect for this time of year! Raffle tickets have been handed out to each family, if you require more tickets please contact us in the office, we will send them home with your child.

children how to keep fit and healthy.
Conducted by teachers, children learn
physical activities to improve their
strength, gain confidence and stamina.
Students have lots of fun with their peers.
They also learn about helping save
Australian lives by asking family and
friends to sponsor them. All funds go
towards research to help the fight against
heart disease and stroke in Australia.
