PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Thank you to Loretta Hamilton who stepped into the role of
Principal during my four week absence and thank you to our
community for making her feel so welcome.
Although it was lovely to spend some quality time with my
family and attend to some important matters, it is wonderful to
be back here at CPS.
I have certainly returned at a busy time for school. Naplan
testing is on this week for our grade 3 and grade 5 students. The
Language Conventions and Writing tests were conducted
yesterday. Today is the Reading test and tomorrow will be the
Numeracy test. It is important for us to understand that this is a
National assessment—the test is designed to take a snap shot of
student curriculum knowledge across Australia. It does not
evaluate variation or diversity of community, background,
personal experience or individual circumstance. We expect CPS
students to complete these assessments to the best of their
individual capacity and demonstrate PRIDE when doing so.
The upgrading of the fall area beneath the playground
equipment is almost complete—it is looking FABULOUS!
The grade 3 and grade 4 students and teachers are preparing for
camp next week and the Mad for Music program continues to
provide music tuition for 14 individual students on Wednesdays.
Mrs Doolan continues to provide Breakfast Club which operates on Tuesday and Thursday
mornings in the BER building after 8.00am
The Community Engagement committee arranged for a local doctor to visit our school
yesterday and provide an information session for parents/carers. This was a valuable
opportunity for parents to access free advice from a medical practitioner and answer any
questions. We greatly appreciate the time provided by the doctor and look forward to
future sessions organized by our committee—Mr Peel and Mrs McLaughlin.
I was impressed to hear reports of the huge success of our Dad’s night held recently and
we look forward to parents/carers visiting our school during Education Week, when
teaching in classrooms will be open for observations—this will be a terrific opportunity
for you to observe the teaching and see your child in their learning environment.
We would also like to thank the staff and parents who were involved in the Mother’s Day
stall last week. There is always a lot of organization behind the scenes
As you might be aware two years ago our students collected blankets to be used for the
animals in the shelters. I have been approached by four of our Senior students, Hayley,
Jack, Charlotte and Emily who would like to support the local RSPCA again. Their proposal,
which is most admirable, is to crotchet blankets for the RSPCA. To complete this venture,
their plan is to have a team work on the deck each Tuesday at recess and lunch time to
crochet squares that will be sewn together into blankets for donation.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? Donate wool. Donate crotchet hooks. Join the team on Tuesday (if
you have a working with children’s check)
Please direct any donations or queries to myself.
These are all great extra-curricula programs provided by our school.

Curriculum
How does ‘reading’ affect us every day?
‘Reading’ enables us to stay connected with family, news, local and international events through letters, text messages, newspapers and newsletters.
‘Reading’ allows us to interpret information provided to us from businesses, service providers, doctors, supermarkets through reports, bills, promotion and sales flyers, catalogues and lists.
‘Reading’ gets us around the neighbourhood and wider community through street signs, maps, timetables and schedules.
Encourage your children to ’read’ with you and connect to the wider world.
