Principal’s Message Incredibly we are nearly at the end of Week 7 and the third full week of face to face teaching and learning. I am constantly reminded of how resilient and courageous our students are, when each morning they come to school with a smile on their face and an enthusiastic approach to start their new day. Keep working hard everyone! The current organisation procedures for afternoon dismissal continues to remain in place until we are advised otherwise by the NSW DoE and NSW Ministry of Health. We are aware that this organisation has meant that many people have had to adjust their daily routines and make alternative arrangements and we will continue to assess and refine our procedures to make it as time effective and safe as reasonably possible. As you may be aware there have been some recent updates with regards to lifting of some COVID-19 restrictions. We have shared the parent/carer updated information on our school communication platforms from NSW DoE, however will continue with all of our current procedures until the end of this term. It is imperative that all adults follow the social distancing procedures while waiting to enter the school grounds by allowing 1.5 metres distancing amongst one another. Adults will be asked by a staff member to space out their entry into the front school gate so as to not have a large group congregate under the COLA area when collecting their children. Thank you for understanding and support with this matter. The staff at UPS are always driven to make decisions based on the health, safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and whole school community. The cooperation and flexibility of the school community is greatly appreciated. As you are aware student reports will look a little different for Semester One. This report will provide a summative account of student progress and achievement on learning covered during this time, at school and at home. Reports will focus on the learning that has taken place so far this year, include parent/carer input and identify some future learning goals A big thank you to the teachers and parent/carers for taking the time to engage in valuable parent/teacher telephone interviews that were conducted during this week. All parent/teacher feedback regarding learning from home has been requested and teachers have truly valued these conversations and the information provided. We were all excited to listen to Emma Wiggle read ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ by Lucinda Gifford during simultaneous story time. This was definitely a wonderful talking point for our students and a fun way to listen to a great story. Reconciliation Week

Principal’s Message

Incredibly we are nearly at the end of Week 7 and the third full week of face to face teaching and learning. I am constantly reminded of how resilient and courageous our students are, when each morning they come to school with a smile on their face and an enthusiastic approach to start their new day. Reconciliation Week

Throughout the past week we have been recognising Reconciliation Week by participating in 20 Ways to be #InThisTogether in 2020. Every day, up until Be Kinder Day on Monday 22 June, classes have been participating in a reconciliation week activity. The insightful conversations and the sharing of stories, thoughts and experiences between the children and teachers has been meaningful and capturing. Thank you to all involved.

Education Week, 2020

Words from Mark Scott (Secretary NSW, DoE)….

‘Learning together’ is the theme for Education Week and reflects the incredible months of 2020 where our students continued to learn and achieve, despite fires, floods and a pandemic.

We know the best learning takes place in a partnership of students, teachers, parents and the community – and this year has really reinforced that understanding for us all. Education Week will run from Monday, 3 August, to Friday, 7 August. It’s our annual week of celebration, held in NSW for more than 50 years to highlight the achievements of our students and staff and the role of public schools as the cornerstone of their communities.

Our schools have experienced significant disruption but our staff, in partnership with parents, have worked tirelessly to ensure that high quality teaching and learning has continued for all students. As life slowly returns to normal, it’s time to reflect on our achievements and the resilience of our school communities. The messages NSW DoE want to convey during Education Week are: Schools are the cornerstone of communities: Parents and carers are our partners in learning. Schools and families benefit from strong, respectful relationships where responsibility for student learning is shared. Change and resilience: Our teachers and students are lifelong learners, collaborating in a positive learning environment to achieve their best. Learning together makes us stronger and creates resilient communities. Connect better and learn together: Our school staff are dedicated professionals who know, value and care for all students. Technology enables learning together anywhere, any time.

UPS will provide details at a later date as to what exciting events we will be holding to recognise Education Week, 2020.

information or if your child has been recently diagnosed with a health condition that the school needs to know about.

Additionally, please ensure that if your child requires medication for short or extended periods of time that this is communicated with the administration staff and your child’s class teacher. All medication needs to be given to the school office by an adult with the consenting information and dosage instructions, clearly labelled with your child’s name and the relevant dates.

GOLD Award Assembly

Due to the current restrictions in place for large group gatherings we will be postponing the GOLD Award Assembly until Term 3. We understand that this may cause some disappointment, however will look forward to planning an exciting assembly in the near future. Congratulations to all of these recipients. We are very proud of you!

Kindergarten 2021

We are excited to announce that we are now taking Kindergarten Enrolments for 2021. Please share this information with any local family who may have a child starting Kindergarten in 2021. Please phone the school office for further details and arrange to collect the enrolment pack and arrange to meet with Mrs Rajendra. We are really looking forward to meeting you all.

Thank you once again for all that you do to support our fabulous school.

Have a great fortnight ahead and please continue to take care and stay safe.
