Swimming Carnival Our school swimming carnival is on tomorrow at Lakeside pool, Raymond Terrace. The carnival will commence at around 9.30am after the bus from school has arrived. The first event will be the 100m freestyle. It was suggested that we try and swim this race earlier at 8.30am, however due to the fact that some of the swimmers are travelling by bus it was not possible to start the carnival at this early time. Speaking of swimming, our class super cover notes have gone home and you may have noticed an additional fee for years 1-6 for swimming lessons. We have been fortunate to secure 5 week swimming programs for each stage in terms 2 and 3 at Balance Gymnasium in Mayfield. The $65 fee covers 5 lessons and bus travel to and from Mayfield. The lessons will occur each Friday at this fantastic all weather venue. At this stage, kindergarten are not included in this program. Zone Cricket Next Tuesday four of our students, Jordan Murphy, Jeremy Nunan, Ewan Mowbray and Louise Delforce will be trying out for the boys and girls zone cricket trials. The trials will take place at Bob’s farm at 10am and we wish them all well. Our school boys’ cricket team will also have their first match against Dungog at Dungog next Thursday. Good luck boys! Technology Seaham continues to lead the way when it comes to computer access and technology in the classroom. Our 6 students have started using their new laptops and all year 5 students across the three classes have access to a laptop. This great initiative, started many years ago, continues to prepare students extremely well for their future in this fast moving world. Canteen Roster

C a n t e e n R o s t e r N e w s We had a great turnout for our meeting

yesterday. Thank you to last year's committee

members who are assisting us to learn our new

roles. The canteen endeavours to keep prices to

a minimum, however, from next week the new

price of a hamburger is $3.00 and a

cheeseburger $2.50. The prices of all other

items remain the same. A menu and price list

will be sent home shortly. The committee is

investigating adding fish to the menu and is

considering other suggestions received in last

year's survey.

Our volunteers are encouraged to email your

email address to Leanne Cox to enable you to

receive roster and canteen updates. Leanne's

email address is l [email protected]

Our volunteers are welcome to use the child

friendly room in the canteen building on their

day. The room is available Mondays to Fridays.

Volunteers will be entered into a raffle for small

prizes. The raffle will be drawn twice a term.

Good luck!

The canteen is open on Mondays, Wednesdays

and Fridays at recess and lunch. Please ensure

your child's name and class are noted on their

lunch order bag.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays the canteen is

open for snacks at lunch time, lunch orders

are not available on these days.

Scholastic Book Club

School Banking

Hi Everyone. Welcome back to a new school

year and another journey into the wonderful

world of reading. Welcome to our new families,

we hope you and your children will enjoy

the books our bookclub has to offer.

We hand out 2 issues of catalogues

each term. To order, simply fill out the order

form on the back of each catalogue and place in

an envelope with payment (cash, cheque or fill

out the credit slip on order form). Please ensure

your child’s name, class and total of order is

written on the envelope and hand in at the

office by the date stamped on the catalogue.

The books usually take 2-3 weeks to come back

and once sorted, are distributed to each child’s

class. If you would prefer to pick up your order

personally from the office, please indicate on

the envelope.

Issue 1 orders are due by 13th February.

All orders earn bonus points that enable us to

purchase additional books and resources for our

classrooms and library. We look forward to

further contributing to our school’s reading

programs and our children’s reading adventures.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate

to contact us; one of your Bookclub team

members (if you aren’t sure who we are, just

ask at the office). Best wishes for the new year!

Julie, Paula and Tracey

Volunteering Guidelines

Parent and Community Volunteers are highly

valued and welcome at Seaham School. Please

find attached to this newsletter our Volunteer

Policy which needs to be read and signed by each

volunteer helping with our school. We thank

you for your assistance with this matter.

There will be no banking this Friday due to

the swimming carnival. Kirsty Johnson & Karen

Codrington will be co-ordinating the school

banking program this year. If you would like to

participate in school banking this year as a new

banker or continuing from last year we would

love to see you every Friday. Banking will be

conducted in the LIBRARY every FRIDAY

morning (unless otherwise stated ) from

8.30 - 9.00am. Please send your child directly

to the library upon arriving at school for

deposits to be processed. This year we will not

be chasing up each class to check that deposits

have been done, it will be each individuals

responsibility to get it to us. If your child

requires a CBA account to participate, we are

asking that you open your child's account

directly with the CBA. You can start banking

once you have receiived your account number &

deposit book.
