We have been enjoying some lovely sunny days so far, and are looking forward to the flowers and their colours. Students have been working hard, some noteworthy activities consist of educational field trips at the high school level to Canoe Creek to make moccasins, and a land-based outing shared with our other high schools in the district to Bamfield. Soccer season is also in full swing, good luck to our play- ers! There will be an information session for High School Parents on the requirements for graduation on Thursday, April 18 th at 5:30 pm. We are also working towards “Share our Story” Evening on Thursday May 2 nd where the students will showcase their learning through their yearly projects. Our school action plan for learning sets our direction to achieve student success. Copies are available at the school, as well as on our school website. There is a lot of information available to parents/caregivers regarding updates to the curriculum online. Our hot lunch Program continues to grow, healthy choices are offered so do have a look at the menu! We are very proud of the success of our ASSAI program, which provides Sports and Arts to our students four times a week creating a wonderful environment for after school activi- ties in Clinton. We encourage parents and caregivers to work with the school through the PAC, during our Open House and learning conver- sation opportunities, share skills with the school through volunteering, following the newsletter and website updates, celebrate student suc- cesses with us, and other related opportunities as they arise. School communications can be found through school newsletters, communi- ty newspapers, project fairs to highlight the work of the students, presentations, bulletin board displays in the school, our website, Fa- cebook site, and of course word of mouth. As the month of April brings milder days and flowers to our corner of the world, let’s remember to provide fresh air activities, healthy meals, and family oriented activities! Sincerely, Carol Pickering Congratulations to Shyla MColl on winning the Regional Remembrance Day Poetry contest. Her winning entry now travels to Ottawa to compete in the Canada wide division. We wish her the best of luck. Attention: High School Parents. Are your children now in the High School Grades? Are you wondering what is next for them in their education and what they will require to gradu- ate? A Graduation Information session for parents, will be offered by Mrs. Downs and Mrs. Pickering. Come to DSS to hear about the graduation changes in the BC Curriculum on April 18th at 5:30.

Principal’s Message Dear David Stoddart Community:

April slipped in almost un-noticed after our Spring

Break. We have been enjoying some lovely sunny days so far, and are

looking forward to the flowers and their colours. Students have been

working hard, some noteworthy activities consist of educational field

trips at the high school level to Canoe Creek to make moccasins, and

a land-based outing shared with our other high schools in the district

to Bamfield. Soccer season is also in full swing, good luck to our play-

ers! There will be an information session for High School Parents on

the requirements for graduation on Thursday, April 18th at 5:30 pm.

We are also working towards “Share our Story” Evening on Thursday

May 2nd where the students will showcase their learning through their

yearly projects.

Our school action plan for learning sets our direction to

achieve student success. Copies are available at the school, as well

as on our school website. There is a lot of information available to

parents/caregivers regarding updates to the curriculum online. Our

hot lunch Program continues to grow, healthy choices are offered so

do have a look at the menu! We are very proud of the success of our

ASSAI program, which provides Sports and Arts to our students four

times a week creating a wonderful environment for after school activi-

ties in Clinton.

We encourage parents and caregivers to work with the

school through the PAC, during our Open House and learning conver-

sation opportunities, share skills with the school through volunteering,

following the newsletter and website updates, celebrate student suc-

cesses with us, and other related opportunities as they arise. School

communications can be found through school newsletters, communi-

ty newspapers, project fairs to highlight the work of the students,

presentations, bulletin board displays in the school, our website, Fa-

cebook site, and of course word of mouth.

As the month of April brings milder days and flowers to our

corner of the world, let’s remember to provide fresh air activities,

healthy meals, and family oriented activities!

Sincerely,

Carol Pickering

Recycling is important to our school.

While we advocate for recycling…….

Think Reduce and Reuse as well.

Not sure if you can recycle plastic trays and tops? Yes you can. Containers are clear or have black bottom trays with clear domes. Empty and

rinse trays. They go in the containers? Yes you can.

Not sure if you can recycle plastic tubs and lids? Yes you can. For single use coffee and tea pods: empty and rinse pods. Remove lids and do not

include lids with recycling. Grounds can be composted. Empty and rinse tubs. Remove lids and place loose in recycling container.

Not sure if you can recycle plastic bottles and caps? Yes you can. Remove caps, spray pump and pull up tops, and place loose in recycling con-

tainer. Labels and caps are ok.

Not sure if you can recycle plastic jars and lids? Yes you can. Plastic jars have wide mouths with screw top lids. Empty and rinse jars, remove lids

and place loose in recycling container.

There are so many uses for things that we throw away. Next time you throw something away, google it’s many

reuses…..you may be pleasantly surprised.

After School Arts and Sports Initiatives.

We have a very active group participating in this unique program. We have some excellent mentors and resource people who come in to

teach our students their skills. Students have been offered to try different Arts and Sports activities that would otherwise not have the

opportunity. We have found some amazing artists, potters, fitness enthusiasts and chefs in our student body. The program runs 4 days a

week from 3:00—5:00. Thanks to all who were involved in bringing this great program to our community.
